Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or physician, provides nursing care in accordance with the legal scope of practice and within established standards of care, policies, and procedures. Demonstrates performance consistent with the Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan of the organization. Demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice, and treats co-workers, patients, families, and all members of the healthcare team with dignity and respect.
Upholds Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities, and applicable laws.
Performs patient care functions within the scope of competency, considering age-related needs, as prescribed by physicians or healthcare professionals, following established protocols, policies, and procedures.
Assists medical personnel with special procedures, minor surgical procedures, and diagnostic exams.
Assesses and monitors patients' conditions and notifies physicians or healthcare professionals for further action.
Prepares and administers medications as directed by physician orders, following protocols.
Maintains equipment and supplies, and arranges for repairs when needed.
Applies principles of aseptic technique and infection control as directed by the Infection Control Manual.
Monitors patient flow and assigns or directs ancillary personnel as needed.
Provides medical information and education to patients, following protocols and guidelines.
Documents pertinent patient information, assessments, and nursing procedures according to protocols.
Performs other duties as directed.
Patient/Care Procedures: Explains examinations, tests, and procedures to patients; instructs on general health and self-care; reviews and clarifies physician orders; instructs on use of home equipment; applies orthopedic devices; applies and removes dressings; executes treatments like catheterization, irrigations, suction, and throat irrigations; follows infection control procedures; initiates emergency procedures including CPR; observes monitors; administers inhalation therapy; participates in care plan development; prepares patients for procedures and exams; provides therapeutic care as ordered; cleans and sterilizes instruments and equipment; maintains work area; monitors oxygen and gas supplies; completes requisitions and test forms; notifies personnel of abnormal results; observes patient reactions; removes sutures; responds to Code Blues; records vital signs; obtains specimens; performs venipuncture and diagnostic tests; assists with surgical procedures; transports patients, specimens, and supplies; manages administrative tasks including scheduling, record keeping, and communication, always maintaining confidentiality; and ensures safety and protocol adherence.
