Alter Behavioral Health is seeking an LVN/LPT to provide compassionate, medically supervised care in a residential behavioral health setting in Orange County. You will administer medications, monitor health status, and coordinate with a multidisciplinary team to support treatment goals.

The role emphasizes safety, documentation in EMR, and crisis intervention while delivering empathetic patient-centered care within a day shift schedule.

Job Details: Job Location: DANA POINT, CA 92629, Position Type: Full Time, Salary Range: $34.00 - $40.00 Hourly, Job Shift: Day, Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) / Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) | Orange County

Alter Behavioral Health is an adult mental health treatment provider with a network of upscale inpatient residential facilities in Orange County and San Diego.

Schedule & Compensation

12-Hour Shift: Day Shift 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM

Schedule: Thursday – Saturday + every other Wednesday (3/4 alternating schedule)

Competitive Compensation: $34.00 – $40.00/hour (DOE)

Location: You will be assigned to one of our Orange County residential facilities located in Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano, Capistrano Beach, or Irvine.

This role goes beyond clinical tasks — it’s about delivering compassionate, attentive care while supporting clients through their mental health and recovery journey.

What You’ll Do

Medication Management

• Administer, dispense, and document medications in accordance with physician orders
• Monitor for side effects and ensure safe medication practices

Client Monitoring & Care Coordination

• Observe and assess clients’ physical and mental health status
• Monitor vital signs and respond promptly to changes in condition
• Work closely with physicians, therapists, and residential staff
• Ensure continuity of care through clear communication and teamwork

Client Support & Engagement

• Build rapport with clients and provide a supportive, therapeutic presence
• Address health-related questions and reinforce treatment goals
• Educate clients on medications, wellness practices, and self-care strategies

Crisis Intervention & Safety

• Respond to medical and psychiatric emergencies with appropriate clinical judgment
• Utilize de-escalation techniques and coordinate with clinical staff as needed

Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in EMR systems
• Complete nursing notes, assessments, and reports in accordance with regulatory standards
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and quality improvement initiatives

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working within multidisciplinary teams

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
• Current LVN or LPT license in California (active and in good standing)
• Knowledge of medication administration and mental health care practices
• Ability to safely and effectively interact with clients experiencing psychiatric symptoms

Requirements

• Valid California Driver’s License required
• CPR & First Aid certification required (or ability to obtain prior to start)
• Must pass Live Scan fingerprint clearance
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Physical Requirements

• Frequent walking, standing, and movement throughout residential facilities
• Ability to navigate multi-level homes, including stairs
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
• Ability to safely respond to emergency situations
• Ability to operate computers and EMR systems

Compliance

• Employment is contingent upon: Successful Live Scan clearance
• Completion of required health screenings, drug testing, and TB testing
• Compliance with DHCS, DSS, Joint Commission standards, HIPAA, and applicable California employment laws
