Job Description

  • Assist the Director of Nursing Services in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the day-to-day functions of the nursing service department, in accordance with current rules, regulations and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility.
  • Conduct and coordinate the development and completion of the resident assessment (i.e. MDS) and assisted living assessments in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the resident assessment, including the implementation of CAA’s and Triggers.
  • Maintain and periodically update written policies and procedures that govern the development, use, and implementation of the resident assessment (MDS), care plan and all assisted living resident assessments.
  • Conduct or coordinate the interviewing of each resident for the resident’s assessment.
  • Develop and implement procedures with the Director of Nursing Services to inform all assessment team members of the arrival of newly admitted residents.
  • Schedule comprehensive assessments of the nursing needs of each resident, utilizing the forms required by current rules or regulations and facility policies. Ensure that appropriate health professionals are involved in the assessment and are aware of the importance of complete and accurate assessments.
  • Assist the Director of Nursing Services and relevant supervisors of other departments in ensuring that all personnel involved in providing care to the resident are aware of the resident’s care plan and that nursing personnel refer to the resident’s care plan prior to administering daily care to the resident.
  • Ensure that a written record is made of any resident’s complaints or grievances with a full accounting of any actions taken and the status of the complaint.
  • Monitor for attending physicians to record and sign progress notes, physicians’ orders, etc., on a timely basis and in accordance with current regulations. Report to the Director if an MD is not compliant.
  • Assist Director with monitoring medication passes and treatment schedules to ensure that medications are being administered as ordered and that treatments are provided as scheduled.
  • Registered Nursing (RN) Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 3+ years’ experience in nursing. Nursing management experience preferred.
  • Delegating Nurse certification or obtained within 2 months
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland.
  • Infection Preventionist preferred or complete course within 3 months
  • MDS experience is highly preferred.
  • Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures as well as laws, regulations and guidelines that pertain to long-term care.
  • Leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
  • Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care.
  • Ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
  • Ability to accurately relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
  • Must be flexible and be available to work on-call as needed in rotation with the Director of Nursing during the week and on weekends.
