Sylvania is seeking a reliable Substitute Lunch & Recess Leader to join our elementary team on an as-needed basis. You will supervise lunch and playtime for K–5 students at DuJardin OR Erickson Elementary School, ensuring safety and smooth transitions during a 12:00pm–1:00pm window.

The role is ideal for parents, retirees, college students, or community members seeking flexible on-call work with no full-day commitments. Prior experience with children helps, and background checks are required.

Qualifications

• Must pass district background checks and onboarding.

Responsibilities

• Cafeteria supervision: assist students, keep area clean, facilitate transitions between eating and play.
• Playground/recess safety: monitor outdoor play, promote inclusive play, help resolve minor issues.
• Positive school culture: provide a friendly, reassuring presence and uphold behavior rules.
• Communication: report notable safety or student concerns to administrators.

About the Role

Looking for a flexible, short-hour role that fits around your busy daily schedule? We are seeking reliable, friendly Substitute Lunch & Recess Support Leaders to join our elementary team on an as-needed basis!

You’ll step in to help ensure our K–5 students have a safe, enjoyable, and well-supervised lunch and outdoor/indoor playtime. This is an ideal position for parents, retirees, college students, or community members looking for flexible on-call work without full-day commitments.

Key Responsibilities

• Cafeteria Supervision: Assist young students with opening food items, maintain a clean and orderly environment, and guide smooth transitions between eating and play time.
• Playground & Recess Safety: Actively monitor outdoor play areas, facilitate safe and inclusive play, and help resolve minor peer disagreements.
• Positive School Culture: Provide a welcoming, encouraging adult presence and help maintain school safety rules and behavior expectations.
• Communication: Report any notable student issues or safety concerns to building administrators.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: Prior experience working or volunteering with children (e.g., youth sports, childcare, parenting) is helpful.
• Key Traits: Dependability, warm demeanor, flexibility, and strong communication skills with young children.
• Physical Demands: Ability to walk, stand, and monitor indoor and outdoor areas in various weather conditions.
• Clearances: Successful completion of required district background checks and onboarding.
