Job summary

Amentum Space Exploration Division (ASED) seeks experienced design engineers for lunar lander hardware across mechanical, structural, and electrical domains. You will create 3-D models, fabrication drawings, and support integration with NASA and suppliers, working on Artemis program goals.

On-site in Huntsville with potential remote options, you will collaborate within an integrated product team, meet tight schedules, and deliver flight hardware documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university and experience in the approximate 5-30 year range.
  • Proficiency in Creo/Pro-Engineer 3-D modeling and 2-D drafting.
  • Proficiency utilizing Windchill.
  • Demonstrated expertise in your specific design discipline applicable to flight hardware or other quality sensitive products.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical components and spacecraft structures for lunar lander hardware.
  • Develop electrical harness designs and system integration drawings.
  • Support aggressive schedules, provide fabrication support and reports.

Responsibilities:

ASED is expecting a large spike in customer demand for design engineers across multiple areas to include mechanical, structural, and electrical engineering to support our Nation’s ambitious lunar exploration goals. These positions are projected to focus on the new Lunar Lander Spacecraft and adjacent hardware projects for the Artemis Program. Some of the specific tasks will include mechanical component design, spacecraft structures design, fluid system design, electrical harness design, and mechanical and electrical system integration/assembly.

Candidate must be able to support aggressive schedules to meet deliverable due dates and occasional overtime may be required. Roles will require working as part of an integrated product team with other contractors as well as NASA Civil Servants from various organizations and disciplines to release engineering documentation for the manufacture of flight hardware. Develop designs as well as detailed fabrication and assembly drawings and provide fabrication support to manufacturing personnel. Collaborate with outside vendors and personnel from NASA. Develop and deliver reports and presentations to MSFC and Amentum management as needed. Positions will be on-site, but remote opportunities may also be available.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university and experience in the approximate 5-30 year range.
  • Proficiency in Creo/Pro-Engineer 3-D modeling and 2-D drafting.
  • Proficiency utilizing Windchill.
  • Demonstrated expertise in your specific design discipline applicable to flight hardware or other quality sensitive products.
Preferences:
  • Experience supporting NASA human spaceflight programs, aerospace, defense, or highly regulated technical programs.
  • Basic knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (ASME Y14.5M-1994) and experience applying GD&T to fully dimensioned production drawings.
  • General understanding of manufacturability and design fabrication practices for flight hardware.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to better support the customer during design presentations and status meetings.

Essential Functions
Work Environment

Office and laboratory environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%).

Physical Requirements

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (40%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%).

Equipment and Machines

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Attendance

Normal workdays are from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (20%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must beappropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
