Job summary

Amentum Space Exploration Division seeks a skilled mockup technician to support the EV73/H SI&E teams for SLS, HLS, and Deep Space projects. You will coordinate across engineering disciplines, review requirements, and convert CAD drawings into fabrication plans.

The role involves materials fabrication, documentation, and collaboration with customers. Strong CAD, manufacturing, and communication skills are essential in a fast-paced NASA-focused program.

Qualifications

  • Educational requirement is a High School diploma or GED or equivalent and at least 15 years of experience and continuing education, or an Associate's Degree or equivalent and at least 10 years of experience.
  • Must be a US Citizen and have a STAR ID.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and understanding hardware engineering drawings.
  • Experience with CAD packages such as Creo or NX.
  • Knowledge of design and construction techniques and standards.
  • Experience with design for manufacturing techniques.
  • Experience in woodworking and basic hand tool proficiency.
  • Ability to break problems or issues into manageable pieces to facilitate resolution of technical concerns.
  • Critical thinking, effective communication skills, and good problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent technical writing and presentation skills.
  • Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Ability to integrate various materials with consideration given the fidelity requirements, budget, and customer needs.
  • Basic ability to work with CAD with ability to grow that skill for design of mockup parts.
  • CNC programming or ability to learn
  • Experience with CNC fabrication, milling, and machine shop operations.

This position will provide manufacturing and mockup support to the Systems Analysis and Human Systems Integration Branch (EV73), the Mockup and Fabrication team, and the Human Systems Integration and Engineering (HSI&E) team in support of the Space Launch System (SLS) Program, the Human Lander System (HLS) Program, and Deep Space Habitation Systems Development. The successful candidate will coordinate and interface with multiple engineering disciplines, system elements, and customers, as well as participate in reviews, meetings, working groups, task teams, and systems/tasks supportability processes and assessments

Specific support to be provided includes the following:

  • Assist in the design and construction of engineering mockup and prototype hardware using various materials.
    • Meet with customers and review the requirements for the mockup.

Essential Functions
Work Environment

Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (5%). Requires ability to work at a computer for long periods of time (100%).

Physical Requirements

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%).

Equipment and Machines

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Attendance

Normal workday 7:30-4:30, Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity, and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

Service Contract Act (SCA) Compensation & Benefits

This is an hourly, overtime-eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). In accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, and in addition to your base hourly rate, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour you work to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act. The amount you are entitled to receive will vary depending upon the fringe benefits you select now and in the future.
