Job summary

Leprino Foods in Lubbock, TX is seeking a Maintenance Tech for night shift to install, repair, and maintain a 600+ person cheese and whey facility. You will calibrate instrumentation, perform mechanical and electrical work, and ensure food safety and quality policies are followed.

Position pays $37 per hour with an additional $1 differential for hours from 6pm to 6am. Weekly pay and on-site work at the facility are included, with benefits and career growth opportunities.

Job description

For our state‑of‑the‑art 600+ person Lubbock, TX cheese and whey manufacturing facility, Leprino is seeking a Maintenance Tech (nights).

Leprino Foods broke ground on the $1 billion facility in the summer of 2022. The plant will become operational in 2025 with Phase 1 and will become fully operational by 2026!

This position pays $37 per hour. There is an additional $1 differential for hours worked between 6pm and 6am. Weekly pay.

Summary Description

Duties include installing, disassembling, repairing, and maintaining equipment. Duties also include the safe repair and troubleshooting of malfunctioning mechanical, electrical or instrumentation systems, the calibration of instruments, maintaining 5S standards in work areas and tool boxes, and performing mechanical, preventive and predictive maintenance. This position participates on the Hazmat response team.

All other duties as assigned.

Job Duties (Accountability Categories and Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities)

NOTE: The job may include other "non-essential" responsibilities and duties that are not listed on this form.

  • Completion of preventative maintenance work orders.
  • Calibrate all plant instrumentation in a wide variety of makes and types specifications (i.e., temperature, flow, pH, vacuum, pressure, Foxboro, Honeywell, Taylor, etc.).
  • Perform mechanical duties such as repair and preventive maintenance of pumps, valves, conveyors, sprockets, gear boxes, welding and fabrication (arc, MIG, TIG, oxyacetylene, etc.).
  • Work with industrial electricity (motor controls) to troubleshoot and repair electrical components and machinery including all three phase 480, 220 and other plant systems.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers, team leads, and supervisors.
  • Review completed work to ensure the highest quality of repair.
  • Follow company's good manufacturing and safety policies and procedures. Maintain housekeeping in area.
  • This position is responsible and accountable to ensure product meets food safety, regulatory, and quality requirements by following the Food Safety Plan, Quality Plan, and company policies.
  • Implement and maintain 5S standards.
  • Perform work in a safe manner by following safety procedures and policies, critical safety rules, and expected standard conduct.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak the English language in order to understand/adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's), to communicate effectively with others, to complete required documentation both in written and electronic form, and to troubleshoot systems utilizing the English language.
  • Must have the ability to perform essential job functions.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment; comply with all applicable safety practices.
  • Maintain a clean work area.
  • Complete written reports.
  • Perform basic and intermediate mathematical calculations.
  • Enter data into and pull data from computer systems.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
  • Associates or two-year degree in a maintenance related field.
  • Prior experience in a maintenance leadership role.
  • Experience with stainless steel welding and fabrication.
  • Basic knowledge of utility equipment and operations (e.g., boiler and refrigeration equipment).
  • Dairy/food manufacturing experience.
  • Knowledge of government and industrial regulations (e.g., PSM, OSHA, and USDA).
  • Computer proficiency in email, internet, Microsoft Office software, and computerized maintenance management systems (e.g., SAP, Maximo).
  • Welding experience.
  • Mechanical repairs (including rebuilding of gearboxes and process equipment) experience.
  • PLC troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with AC frequency drives and instrumentation.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities/Competencies
  • Must possess considerable problem‑solving ability in dealing with equipment or troubleshooting when supervision is not readily available for consultation.
  • Must communicate effectively with machine operators, production supervisors, outside contractors and plant maintenance personnel. Good communication with co‑workers and on‑coming/outgoing shifts is also expected.

Physical/Mental Requirements and Work Environment

Maintenance Team Lead positions are physically demanding and require being on the feet the entire shift, standing and walking, kneeling for extended periods of time, working in wet/dry/cold/hot environments, working in tight spaces, climbing steps and ladders, working at extreme heights, making pipe connections, using hand tools, physically transporting parts and tools, and lifting equipment parts which can weigh up to 70 lbs. Maintenance Leads must be able to work overtime and holidays when required.

This position requires the incumbent to work on site at the facility to be able to perform the associated job responsibilities.
