Job summary

Farmington Public Schools is seeking a School Social Worker (LTS) to support students and families in our Minnesota district. The role focuses on social, emotional, behavioral and mental health interventions, collaborating with educators, parents, and community agencies to maximize learning.

The position requires a Master’s Degree with licensure (LGSW/LISW/LICSW/LSW) and strong computer and confidentiality skills, with a target start in August 2026 and assignment through February 2027.

Qualifications

• Must hold current Minnesota School Social Worker license or licensure eligibility.
• Experience connecting families and students to local/community resources.
• Experience facilitating and navigating difficult situations.
• Knowledge of IDEA/due process requirements and strong computer skills.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to interact with all staff and the public.
• Familiarity with agencies/resources such as ACP, NAMI, PACER, MN Assoc for Children’s Mental Health, MOFAS, Courage Center, MN Disability Law Center, Lifeworks, Dakota County Mental Health, 360 Communities.

Responsibilities

• Assesses needs and counsels students and families regarding social, emotional, behavioral and mental health interventions.
• Mobilizes and coordinates community resources to address learners’ needs.
• Builds partnerships with service providers to expand resources for students and families.
• Identifies needs in crisis situations and coordinates with community resources.
• Works in schools and district on on-call basis.
• Collaborates with community service providers.
• Serves as building-level homeless liaison.
• Develops social skills plans and proactive behavior management plans.
• Administers and interprets social work assessments and evaluations.
• Consults with instructors and parents to design IEP goals and services.
• Organizes parental involvement activities.
• Serves as a resource and advocate to students and families.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

$283 to $579 per day depending on experience and education.

Qualifications:

• Must have current appropriate Minnesota teaching license.
• Will accept an OFP or Tier 1 or 2 license.

Position Description:

Provides services to students and families to help students increase their ability to function optimally and enhance learning. Collaborates with student support network (e.g., educational team, parents, and community agencies) to address the students’ academic, emotional, and social needs. Works toward enhancing and fostering positive relations among the student, school, community, and parents.

Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree, three to five years of work experience, certification as a LGSW, LISW, LICSW, or LSW, and licensed or able to obtain a license from the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board as a School Social Worker.
• Experience connecting families and students to local/community resources
• Experience facilitating and navigating difficult situations
• Knowledge of all due process requirements and strong computer skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to interact with and maintain cooperative relationship with all levels of staff and the public
• Experience or familiarity with the following agencies/resources: ACP, NAMI, PACER, MN Assoc for Children’s Mental Health, MOFAS, Courage Center, MN Disability Law Center, Lifeworks, Dakota County Mental Health, 360 Communities
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, understand and follow data privacy rules and regulations related to learners, staff, community members.

Essential Duties:

• Assesses needs and counsels students and families individually and in groups regarding social, emotional, behavioral and mental health interventions needed to enhance learning.
• Mobilizes and coordinates community resources for students and families to address academic, behavioral, emotional, mental health and social needs.
• Develops and builds community agency partnerships with service providers to expand resources available to students and families. Communicates information to teachers and related service staff as needed to support student learning.
• Identifies needs and provides services to students in crisis and coordinates with community resources during any student’s mental health crisis.
• Works in assigned schools and throughout the district on an on-call basis.
• Collaborates with community service providers.
• Serves as building-level homeless liaison.
• Summarizes student social-emotional needs and develops social skills training plans and proactive behavior management plans to support the students’ success in the educational setting, including but not limited to center based special education programs.
• Administers and interprets professional social work assessments and evaluations in compliance with IDEA and MN special education laws/rules.
• Consults with instructors and parents to design IEP goals and services to support the learning environment for increased educational benefit.
• Develops and organizes activities for parental involvement.
• Serves as a resource and advocate to students and families.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
