  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in locations and times designated
  • Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of the principal/district office administrator
  • Plans lessons that are differentiated to meet the needs of students and aligns to PA Core and approved courses
  • Demonstrates understanding of the Danielson Framework and executes its implementation
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning for students
  • Guides learning toward curriculum goals and establishes objectives for lessons, units, projects
  • Uses varied instructional techniques and technology to promote growth in learning
  • Implements district philosophy and instructional goals
  • Assesses student progress and provides reports as required
  • Supports identification of students with special needs in collaboration with district specialists
  • Maintains accurate records as required by policy
  • Supports administration in policy enforcement
  • Develops classroom behavior rules and maintains order

Title:Reading Specialist
Reports To: Building Principal
Takes Direction From: Professional Employee/Member of NPEA
Schedule/Calendar: 7.5 hours/day 37.5 hours/week 191 days/year

Summary:

A teacher shall be responsible for helping students learn subject matter and skills that will maximize their potential to develop into mature, capable and responsible adults.

Essential Functions:
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in locations and times designated
  • Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of the principal/district office administrator
  • Plans lessons that are differentiated in order to meet the needs of students and demonstrates alignment to the PA Core and approved courses of study
  • Demonstrates understanding of the Danielson Framework and executes its implementation
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in conjunction with SLOs, establishes objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and technology, consistent with the needs and capabilities of student groups, in order to promote and nurture growth in learning
  • Strives to implement, by instruction and action, the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required
  • Works to support the identification of students with special needs on an ongoing basis seeking the assistance of district specialists as required
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative procedure
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct
  • Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure
  • Maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
  • Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
  • Displays comprehensive understanding of technology and 21st century skills and their incorporation into instructional practice and methodology
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on building and/or district-level committees, as required
  • Assumes responsibility for continued professional growth development to include conference attendance, coursework, participation in PLCs, etc.
Education and/or Certification Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education
  • PA teacher certification
