Job description

The Dane County Land and Water Resources Department has openings for the LTE Lussier Family Heritage Center Attendant – Environmental Education position in Madison, WI.

Limited Term Employees (LTE) are limited to 1,200 hours in a payroll year and are not guaranteed any hours per week. COMMITMENT TO EQUITY AND INCLUSION

DEFINITION

Under the supervision of the Engagement and Visitor Services Manager and the Land & Water Education Coordinator, this role involves assisting with environmental and outdoor education programs for youth and adults, including summer day camp activities.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Assist in delivering environmental and outdoor education programs for various groups.
  • Lead summer camp activities, field trips, and outdoor programs such as fishing, biking, paddling, hiking, and camping.
  • Serve as a positive role model and leader for youth participants.
  • Support outreach and engagement initiatives for the department.
  • Perform general computer-related tasks, including social media content development and creating promotional materials.
  • Assist with reception duties, including answering phones, guest services, and event check-in.
  • Prepare and set up events, requiring lifting and moving chairs and tables.
  • Maintain facilities, including cleaning restrooms, floors, windows, and furniture.
  • Perform grounds maintenance, including sweeping patios and decks, snow removal, gardening, and trash removal.

Education, Training, and Experience

High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Lifeguard certification is preferred.
  • Willingness to obtain Wisconsin Fishing License, CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications within six months of hire.

Special Requirements

  • Applicants must be 18 years or older.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Successful candidates will undergo a driving record check.
  • Ability to work varied hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Background Check Statement: Some positions require a criminal background check, including fingerprinting. Disqualifications may occur based on criminal history if relevant to job responsibilities.

For Bilingual Positions:

  • Provide services in English and a specified foreign language.
  • Testing may include responding in the foreign language or passing an oral translation exam.

*Candidates can verify bilingual certification qualifications with the Employee Relations Division.

Physical and Environmental Work Requirements

  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand, sit, walk, and perform physical tasks in outdoor terrains and weather conditions.
  • Hear and speak effectively, with or without adaptive devices.
  • Work with youth and adults, including those with disabilities.
