The Dane County Human Services Department, Badger Prairie Health Care Center (BPHCC), has a limited-term vacancy for an LTE Laundry Worker in Verona WI.

Limited Term employees are limited to 1,200 hours in a payroll year and are not guaranteed any hours per week.

DEFINITION

Under general supervision of the Administrative Services Supervisor, the incumbent will perform a variety of routine manual tasks in the operation of the Badger Prairie Health Care Center’s linen and laundry area. This includes handling inventory and distribution of linen, providing assistance with the residents’ personal laundry, laundering and distribution of certain facility owned items, maintaining cleanliness of laundry areas and equipment and executing the clothing labeling process. Also, may serve as backup to other position(s).

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Load and deliver clean linen carts to the nursing households. Launder rags, mop heads, some personal clothing and miscellaneous items. Prepare and send daily linen order. Follow health and safety guidelines. Maintain sanitary work area and equipment. Operate large and heavy laundry equipment and machinery such as: industrial washer and dryer. Monitor and change chemicals for the laundry machine automatic dispensing system. Maintain simple records. Maintain procedures for handling dirty linen into the appropriate carts. Label resident clothing, organize and maintain donated clothing and perform related work as required. Serve as backup to other position(s).

Education, Experience And Special Requirements

Education, Training and Experience:

Any combination of training and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED and one (1) year in a laundry, janitorial or healthcare related position.

Special Requirements

Steel-toe, non-skid safety shoes are encouraged, but not required when pushing or pulling carts.

Background Check Statement: Some positions may require a criminal background check which can include fingerprinting due to the nature of the job's responsibilities. Wisconsin's Fair Employment Law, s. 111.31 – 111.395, Wis. Stats., prohibits discrimination because of an arrest or conviction record. However, Dane County may disqualify an applicant if the position's responsibilities are substantially related to the applicant's criminal history (e.g., the nature of the crime and its relationship to the position, whether hiring, transferring or promoting an applicant would pose an unreasonable risk to the business, its employees, customers and vendors, etc.) Management reserves the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of the background check.

For Bilingual Positions

  • Provide services in both English and the required foreign language (e.g., Spanish, Arabic, Hmong, etc.).
  • Applicants being considered for bilingual positions will be tested during the recruitment process prior to employment. This will primarily consist of passing an oral language proficiency assessment from English to foreign language and foreign language to English, but may require additional language testing, such as written translation, if it is an essential function of the job.
  • If applicable, individuals may confirm with the Employee Relations Division whether results of bilingual language certifications/ examinations they currently hold qualify them for the position’s bilingual designation.

Physical And Environmental Work Requirements

Work in moderately safe and comfortable conditions within a modern healthcare facility, with potential for exposures to odors, violence and noise. Potential for exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including blood borne pathogens. May be required to wear personal protective equipment, up to and including, an N95 respirator.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Knowledge of laundry equipment; knowledge of safety hazards. Possession of basic and accurate mathematical skills. Ability to effectively communicate in English, verbally and orally. Ability to learn and grasp routine tasks quickly. Physical ability to do routine laundry work. Ability to push/pull laundry carts with up to 30 pounds exertion on a variety of surfaces, lift laundry bags weighing up to 50 pounds, grasp/lift/carry bundles of laundry, stand for extended periods of time, repetitively bend, squat and kneel, and walk up to 7 miles per day on various surfaces while pushing/pulling carts. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to work cooperatively with others. Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
