The Case Manager I, LTD role involves handling a caseload of long term disability claims, applying contractual provisions, and communicating decisions clearly with sensitivity to claimants’ circumstances.

You will manage customer service, benefit payments, and financial risk, while working with a team to uphold Sun Life’s standards and processes across a nationwide footprint.

Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with customer service orientation.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to conduct detailed claimant interviews.
• Solid critical thinking skills and ability to negotiate.
• Demonstrated expert analytical skills with contract language.

Responsibilities

• Manage and prioritize a group of claims on an ongoing basis while maintaining documentation.
• Obtain all pertinent information to evaluate claim credibility.
• Prepare written rationale of claim decisions based on contract provisions and medical/occupational records.
• Process claims for payment by setting up on the claim paying system for timely benefits.
• Assess vocational rehabilitation opportunities with vocational staff.
• Use investigative tools; may testify in court and provide depositions.
