Kickball, Softball, Dodgeball, Flag Football, Indoor Volleyball, Sand Volleyball, Basketball and Broomball

The City of Rochester, Minnesota (pop. 115,000+) Park and Recreation Department provides a variety of leisure time opportunities for people to enjoy and manages more than 3500 acres of park land including 4 golf courses, over 100 individual parks and 85 miles of paved trails.

Nature of Work

The City of Rochester is currently accepting applications for this temporary/seasonal/limited appointment position which serves as a referee/umpire for various seasonal league sports organized by the Parks and Recreation Department. Duties include objectively enforcing the rules of the sport and keeping score. This position must be able to interact with the public in a professional, courteous, and helpful manner.

Work Schedule:

Various positions are available, depending on the sport, with most games being held on evenings, Monday through Friday.

Pay Rate:

$20.49-$28.37 per game, depending on the sport and qualifications.

Positions will be filled as needed and applications will be accepted until all vacancies are filled.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must:

  • Possess a High School diploma or the equivalent (GED)
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be familiar with the rules of the sport they are officiating
  • Be able to physically able to perform the sport they are officiating
  • Have the ability to deal professionally and tactfully with the public
