Job summary

Bechtel is building a semiconductor manufacturing plant in New Albany, Ohio. The Life Safety Systems CSU Engineer will plan, coordinate, and execute commissioning, startup, testing, and turnover of life safety systems across a large facility, working within the CSU organization for the EPC contractor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field required.
  • 5–12 years of relevant mission-critical facilities commissioning experience.
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA codes, IBC/IFC compliance and OSHA requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute Life Safety Systems commissioning and startup plans.
  • Prepare commissioning procedures, test scripts, integrated testing plans, and acceptance criteria.
  • Lead functional and integrated testing of Life Safety Systems (Fire Alarm, Detection, Suppression, Gas Detection, Smoke Control, Emergency Communications).
  • Coordinate with Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Controls, Automation, Process Systems, Construction teams, Vendors, AHJs, and Operations.
  • Verify system performance against project requirements and client standards; document FATs/SATs.
  • Manage turnover packages and ensure proper as-built documentation and procedures.
  • Promote safety and compliance throughout all commissioning and startup activities.

Job Summary

The Life Safety Systems (LSS) CSU Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing commissioning, startup, testing, and turnover activities associated with Life Safety Systems throughout a large semiconductor manufacturing facility. The position is part of the Commissioning and Startup (CSU) organization and works for the EPC contractor responsible for delivering the facility from construction completion through operational readiness. The LSS CSU Engineer will lead commissioning activities for fire detection, fire alarm, fire suppression, emergency communications, hazardous gas detection, smoke control, emergency power interfaces, and other life safety systems. The role requires close coordination with engineering, construction, vendors, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), client operations personnel, and other CSU disciplines to ensure systems are tested, integrated, documented, and turned over safely and in accordance with project requirements. The successful candidate will possess strong technical expertise, a commitment to safety, excellent communication skills, and the ability to troubleshoot complex integrated life safety systems within a mission critical environment. * Collaborate:Actively seeks out others' opinions and input and is open-minded to their views. Major Responsibilities

Planning and Commissioning Execution


  • Develop and execute commissioning and startup plans for Life Safety Systems.

  • Prepare commissioning procedures, test scripts, integrated testing plans, and acceptance criteria.

  • Review project specifications, drawings, cause-and-effect matrices, sequence of operations, and vendor documentation.

  • Support constructability, operability, maintainability, and commissioning reviews during project execution.

  • Plan and coordinate system walkdowns, punch list development, and turnover activities.


Testing and Verification


  • Lead functional and integrated testing of Life Safety Systems, including:

  • Fire Alarm Systems

  • Fire Detection Systems

  • Clean Agent Suppression Systems

  • Wet and Dry Sprinkler Systems

  • Pre-Action Systems

  • Emergency Voice/Communication Systems

  • Gas Detection Systems

  • Smoke Control and Purge Systems

  • Emergency Shutdown Interfaces

  • Emergency Power and Backup Power Interfaces

  • Building Automation System (BAS) and Integrated Control System Interfaces

  • Witness and document Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs).

  • Verify system performance against project requirements, code requirements, and client standards.

  • Support integrated facility testing involving multiple disciplines and systems.


System Integration and Troubleshooting


  • Coordinate with Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Controls, Automation, Process Systems, and Construction teams.

  • Investigate and resolve commissioning deficiencies and technical issues.

  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action development.

  • Verify proper interaction and functionality between life safety systems and facility control platforms.


Compliance and Safety


  • Ensure commissioning activities comply with:

  • NFPA Codes and Standards

  • International Building Code (IBC)

  • International Fire Code (IFC)

  • Applicable OSHA Requirements

  • Local AHJ Requirements

  • Project Specifications

  • Client Standards

  • Support permit-to-work, lockout/tagout, energization, and hazard control processes.

  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture throughout all startup and commissioning activities.


Documentation and Turnover


  • Manage commissioning documentation through approved digital completions systems.

  • Track commissioning progress, system status, punch items, and readiness metrics.

  • Prepare turnover packages and support handover to operations.

  • Verify completion of required as-built documentation, operating procedures, and maintenance documentation.


Stakeholder Coordination


  • Coordinate activities with Engineering Teams

Education and Experience Requirements


  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline and 5-8 years of relevant experience in mission critical facilities or 9-12 years of relevant work experience in mission critical facilities.
