Valley Metro is offering a hiring bonus of $2,000.00.
Shift differential offered for 2nd and 3rd shifts

LRV (Light Rail Vehicle) Inspector

The Light Rail Vehicle Inspector performs inspections of Light Rail Vehicles, their components, systems, and parts; conducts routine maintenance; prepares inspection reports; and assists in cleaning activities.

This position is safety sensitive and subject to Valley Metro RPTA's Drug & Alcohol Program, including drug testing prior to employment and ongoing random testing.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • At least one year of experience in inspection, maintenance, or servicing of vehicles, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Availability to work weekends, holidays, overtime, and odd hours; may be called in for emergencies.
  • Must pass a physical examination to qualify for operating Rail Vehicles.
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to successfully pass Rail Vehicle Operator Safety Training.
  • Must pass a physical examination, background check, and drug screen.
  • Valid Arizona Driver's License and ability to qualify to operate light rail vehicles.
Responsibilities
  1. Perform inspections on LRVs and work overtime when required.
  2. Maintain attendance and punctuality.
  3. Complete reports and checklists of inspections.
  4. Inspect vehicles for damage, check fire extinguishers, fill sandboxes, and inspect lubricants, fluids, and brakes.
  5. Ensure all vehicle systems operate properly, including lighting, sensors, and electrical systems.
  6. Secure vehicle covers and boxes, install and replace advertisements and materials.
  7. Assist in cleaning and perform monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual inspections.
  8. Perform minor repairs and ensure safety policies are followed.
  9. Contribute to a safe work environment and participate in safety training.
  10. Support operational improvements and cross-training.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of vehicle inspection practices, basic mechanical and electrical principles, computer operations, and safe work practices.

Skills in judgment, use of tools and equipment, reading manuals and diagrams, and report preparation.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Positions require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.

Work is performed in shop and outdoor environments, exposed to weather, equipment, electrical hazards, chemicals, noise, and vibrations.
