Job summary

Detroit Public Schools Community District seeks a licensed practical nurse to administer vaccines, manage immunization records, and support the vaccine program in school settings. You will handle vaccine storage, data reporting, and coordination with the Vaccine Coordinator and Nursing leadership to ensure program compliance.

You will educate parents, conduct clinics, and stay current with VFC and immunization registry requirements while serving students and the community in a school-based role.

Qualifications

• Current, unencumbered license to practice as an LPN in the State of Michigan.
• Minimum of 1 year experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
• Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support Certification.
• Minimum 1 year experience with immunizations and pediatric nursing care management preferred.
• Minimum 1 year experience with Electronic Immunization Record preferred.
• English and Computer Proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with the Vaccine Coordinator under the supervision of the Vaccine Program Nurse Team Lead and Nursing Department Leadership in the assessment, planning, and administration of student vaccine administration.
• Comply with the Vaccine for Children’s Program and Vaccine Program guidelines.
• Excellent oral and written communication.
• Communicate with parents/guardians as needed to obtain immunization consents and provide immunization education.
• Serve as a resource to parents/guardians/students and the community to answer questions and provide immunization information as needed.
• Conduct education sessions and vaccine clinics at DPSCD schools, internal and external partner locations.
• Participate in professional development trainings as assigned by the Senior Director of Nursing.
• Ensure that storage equipment temperatures are documented twice daily.
• Follow proper protocol in response to temperature excursions or equipment failure.
• Remain current with all Vaccine for Children Program trainings and requirements.
• Remain current with all Immunization Registry Training.
• Prepare and participate with all Vaccine for Children Program audits.
• Monitor and assist with the safe transfer of vaccines in event of emergencies, power failures, or equipment failure.
• Comply with the processes, procedures, and guidelines of the vaccine program.
• Provide care and assistance to students receiving vaccinations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
