Position Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct patient care and clinical support in the surgical office. The LPN works closely with the entire care team and other healthcare professionals to provide safe, efficient, and compassionate care to patients within the Surgical Offices. The LPN assists with patient assessment, pre‑ and post‑operative care, procedures, patient education, and coordination of surgical services while maintaining accurate and timely documentation. Other duties include, but are not limited to, the following essential job functions:

  • Perform patient assessments and document patient information
  • Provide patient education regarding care
  • Prepare patients for surgical consultations, procedures, and follow‑up appointments.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Follow infection‑control, safety, HIPAA, and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked clinical areas.
  • Perform wound care, dressing changes, suture or staple removal, and other treatments as ordered.
Minimum Qualifications
  • New York State license as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.
  • Previous surgical, specialty, outpatient, or physician-office experience preferred.
Physical Demands

Combination of walking and standing. Heavy lifting, 45 pounds or over and positioning of patients is required. Light carrying under 15 pounds. Pushing, pulling, kneeling and bending required. Frequent reaching, some above shoulders, handling and fingering of instruments and equipment. Talking and hearing for communicating with other personnel and patients. Hearing to distinguish differences and variations of vital signs of patients. Near-visual acuity required to work with a charts and records and to observe patients to detect changes in patient conditions, to read gauges and dials on equipment. Color vision for perceiving changes in patient's skin color, color of medicines and solutions.
