Job summary

Montana State Hospital is seeking an experienced Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide skilled nursing care, assessments, planning, interventions and evaluations for adults in a therapeutic environment.

You will supervise patients, follow medical directions, and apply de-escalation techniques to support individuals with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric disorders. Strong documentation and psychopharmacology knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

• Must have an LPN license and graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing.
• Minimum of 2 years of related experience.

The role involves supervising and accounting for patients, delivering care as directed by medical and nursing providers, and using therapeutic communication and de-escalation techniques to support individuals with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric disorders. Strong documentation, patient assessment, and psychopharmacology knowledge are essential. A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience and current Montana LPN licensure are required.

Responsibilities:

• Perform patient assessments and document findings accurately.
• Implement appropriate nursing care interventions for adult clients.
• Supervise and account for patients in the facility.
• Observe, report, and document patients' physical, emotional, and behavioral status.
• Maintain and protect patient rights within the therapeutic environment.
• Use therapeutic communication and de-escalation techniques effectively.
• Collaborate with medical and nursing providers to deliver patient care.
• Utilize patient care information systems proficiently.
• Maintain knowledge of current psychopharmacology relevant to patient care.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing.
• Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of Montana or compact licensure.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience, preferably in psychiatric, developmental, or behavioral health settings.
• Ability to perform patient assessments and document care thoroughly.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with technology related to patient care information systems.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification.
• Experience providing care to individuals with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric disorders.
• Contract or travel nursing experience of at least 1 year.

Special Considerations:

• Work involves therapeutic communication and de-escalation in a psychiatric facility.
• Shift differential may be available.
• One meal provided per shift.
• Must be flexible with facility scheduling and able to work at either the Warm Springs or Grasslands locations.

Scheduling:

• 12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
• Shift assignments may vary based on facility needs and candidate flexibility.
