Job description

General Duties
  • Participate in patient care under supervision and in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Measure and record appropriate vital signs based on departmental policy and patient age, identifying abnormal values and reporting to the medical provider.
  • Assist with clinic flow: patient arrival, procedures, scheduling, and facilitating smooth patient exit.
  • Prepare patients for examination, treatment, and procedures.
  • Observe patients for signs of abuse/neglect and report as per policy.
  • Recognize emergencies and respond according to organizational policy.
  • Perform non-complex procedures (e.g., dressing changes) per clinic policy and documented competency.
  • Provide comfort needs of patients, considering age and special needs.
  • Handle clinic equipment: prepare, test for safety, clean, and disinfect per hospital policy.
  • Administer prescribed medication and/or vaccinations as ordered in accordance with department policy.
  • Properly collect, prepare, and secure specimens for point-of-care testing or transport when necessary.
  • Perform point-of-care testing per Laboratory Point of Care Testing Manual Guidelines.
  • Maintain medication inventory, dispose of expired medications properly, store medications per policy, and ensure medication safety with multi-dose vials and containers.
  • Maintain refrigerator/freezer monitoring logs to ensure proper storage environment for medications and vaccines.
  • Document clinical tasks, testing, and procedures appropriately in the patient medical record per departmental guidelines.
  • Prepare paperwork including documentation of waived testing quality control procedures.
  • Maintain privacy of patient personal health information by securing computer screens when no staff present.
  • Navigate Electronic Medical Record to obtain laboratory and radiology results, medical records, update patient demographic data, and schedule follow-up appointments.
  • Prepare safety reports when warranted or as directed by the clinic manager or designee.
  • Consult with and keep clinic manager informed of clinic activities, requirements, and problems.
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality.
  • Assist with compliance to safety, environmental, infection control, quality improvement, and other regulatory standards.
  • Implement standard and transmission-based precautions as per policy.
  • Ensure patient safety during clinic visits as per policy.
  • Maintain a clean clinic working environment.
  • Report any safety hazards or violations to clinic manager or designee.
  • Participate in quality improvement processes, QAPI projects, and EOC rounds.
  • Assist with clinic preparation by gathering clinical documentation for review by the medical provider or licensed practitioner.
  • Use equipment including computers, printers, scanners, and fax machines; scan outside correspondence into relevant area of EMR.
  • Obtain medical records from outside facilities when needed or requested by medical provider.
  • Answer the telephone and route calls promptly to the appropriate person.
Licenses and Certifications
  • BLS Healthcare Provider Certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Licensed to practice as an LPN in Louisiana.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Prevention (CPI, NCI-CPI) – Crisis Prevention Institute. (NOEH employees will receive within 90 days.)
