Job description

General Duties
  • Participate in the care of patients under the supervision of the manager/director and in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team.
  • Measure and record appropriate vital signs based on departmental policy and patient age.
  • Identify abnormal values based on age and developmental level and report findings to the appropriate medical provider.
  • Assist with patient arrival, scheduling new and follow‑up appointments, and facilitate a smooth patient exit from the clinic.
  • Prepare patients for examination, treatment and/or procedures.
  • Observe patients for signs and symptoms of abuse/neglect and report immediately in accordance with policy.
  • Recognize emergencies and respond appropriately in adherence to organizational policy and procedure.
  • Perform non‑complex procedures, such as simple dressing changes, according to clinic policy and documented competency.
  • Provide comfort to patients with consideration of age and special needs.
  • Prepare equipment, test for safety prior to use, and clean and disinfect equipment following hospital policy.
  • Administer prescribed medication and/or vaccinations via the ordered route in accordance with department policy.
  • Collect, prepare and secure specimens for point‑of‑care clinic testing and/or transport when necessary.
  • May perform point‑of‑care testing per Laboratory Point‑of‑Care Testing Guidelines.
  • Maintain medication inventory, ensure proper disposal of expired medications, and store medications according to department policy.
  • Maintain refrigerator/freezer monitoring logs to ensure proper storage environment for all medications and vaccines.
  • Document clinical tasks, testing and procedures appropriately in the patient medical record according to established departmental guidelines.
  • Complete proper paperwork, including documentation of waived testing quality control procedures.
  • Maintain privacy of patient personal health information by ensuring computer screens are secure in the absence of staff.
  • Navigate the Electronic Medical Record to obtain laboratory and radiology results, update patient demographic data, and schedule follow‑up appointments.
  • Prepare safety reports when warranted or as directed by the clinic manager/designee.
  • Assist others with information, direction or help as required.
  • Consult and keep clinic manager informed of clinic activities, requirements and problems.
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality.
  • Assist with compliance to safety, environmental, infection control, quality improvement and other regulatory standards.
  • Ensure patient safety during clinic visits per hospital policy.
  • Maintain a clean clinic working environment.
  • Implement standard and transmission‑based precautions as per hospital policy.
  • Perform hand hygiene as outlined in hospital policy.
  • Report any safety hazards or violations in the patient or clinic environment to the clinic manager or designee.
  • Participate in the quality improvement process, including QAPI projects and EOC rounds.
  • Participate in the clinic preparation process by gathering appropriate clinical documentation for review by the medical provider/licensed practitioner.
  • Operate equipment including computers, printers, scanners and fax machines.
  • Obtain medical records from outside facilities when needed or requested by medical provider.
  • Scan outside correspondence into the appropriate area of the electronic medical record.
  • Answer the telephone and route calls promptly to the appropriate person.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing in Louisiana.
  • Certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers.
