Job summary

Carilion Clinic invites applications for a full-time LPN Outpatient – Allergy position in Daleville, VA. The role supports physicians in a clinic setting, performing patient assessments, administering meds, and coordinating care. Travel to other clinics may be required; shift is Monday–Friday, 8a–5p.

Eligible for a sign-on bonus per guidelines, with a competitive compensation range and robust benefits. Virginia-licensed LPN and BLS required; radiology license if performing radiology duties.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program; eligible to sit for Virginia licensure exam.
• Current LPN license in Virginia required; Radiologic Technician license if radiology duties.
• AHA BLS-HCP certification required.
• Strong customer service orientation and communication skills; ability to solve problems and use EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical nursing support under physician/APP supervision.
• Perform patient assessments: vital signs, chief complaint, meds reconciliation.
• Prepare patients for exams, collect specimens, assist during procedures.
• Administer medications and injections per provider.
• Document in EMR promptly and accurately; update treatment and test results.
• Educate patients on medications, treatments, and follow-up care.
• Assist with referrals/pre-authorizations for tests and services.
• Maintain clean, stocked exam and treatment areas; safe handling of materials.
• Support telehealth services where applicable.

How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare:

The LPN Outpatient provides practical nursing support in a physician practice or clinic setting, assisting with patient care, clinical procedures, and coordination of services. Collaborates with healthcare providers and team members to deliver safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.

This position is full time, working Monday-Friday 8a-5p

This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus when successful candidate meets applicable guidelines.

The position does require occasional travel to other clinics for staffing needs.

LPN Outpatient

• Provides practical nursing support under the direction of a physician or advanced practice provider in a clinic setting.
• Performs patient assessments, including vital signs, chief complaint, and medication reconciliation.
• Prepares patients for provider evaluation, including specimen collection, positioning, and assistance during exams and procedures.
• Administers medications and injections as directed by the provider.
• Documents patient information accurately and timely in the electronic medical record, including treatment updates, medication refills, test results, and patient concerns.
• Provides patient education related to medications, treatments, and follow-up care as directed by the provider.
• Assists with referral authorizations and pre-authorizations for tests and ancillary services.
• Maintains exam, treatment, and lab areas in a clean and safe condition and ensures supplies and equipment are available.
• Performs laboratory-related tasks as applicable, including specimen collection, preparation, and basic testing following appropriate training and quality standards.
• Performs radiology-related tasks as applicable, including assisting with imaging procedures and ensuring proper safety precautions and documentation.
• Adheres to infection control, safety standards, and proper handling and disposal of specimens and materials.
• Supports telehealth services, including tele-retinal and tele-dermatology setup as applicable.

What We Require:

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing required, or a new graduate of an approved program eligible to sit for the Virginia licensure exam.

Experience:None.

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Commonwealth of Virginia required. Limited Radiologic Technician license required for roles performing radiology functions.

Life Support: Current AHA BLS-HCP certification required.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Strong customer service orientation. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to problem solve and communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals. Proficiency with electronic medical records and computer systems.

Compensation Range:

$21.61 - $30.25

Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
