Job summary

Quality Correctional Care seeks dedicated nursing professionals to join the team at Porter County Jail in Valparaiso, IN. The RN or LPN will deliver comprehensive medical care, administer medications, and perform 14‑day physicals while coordinating with a medical provider for sick calls and emergencies.

Candidates must hold an RN or LPN license and CPR certification, be able to stand for long periods, and lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Administer medications and provide comprehensive nursing care
• Perform medical intakes and initial assessments
• Respond to sick call requests and coordinate with medical providers
• Manage wound dressings and routine treatments
• Conduct 14‑day physicals and ongoing chronic care
• Educate patients on health concerns and precautions
• Respond to medical emergencies and provide life-saving measures when needed
• Maintain pharmacology knowledge and review medications for cost and formulary considerations
• Guide Medically Trained Personnel as needed
• Comply with all laws and regulations
• Provide direction and support in clinical settings

Nursing Responsibilities:

• Assess, plan, and deliver comprehensive healthcare to patients by providing the following:
  • Administer medications
  • Perform medical intakes and assess if patient is fit for incarceration, as needed
  • Respond to sick call requests and follow up with the medical provider when needed
  • Check and/or change medical dressings as required by the medical provider
  • Performing 14-day physicals
  • Managing chronic care
  • Providing patient education on health concerns
  • Responding to medical emergencies
    • Be capable of performing life saving measures and ability to take charge and give direction in an emergency
  • Maintain working knowledge of pharmacology, including but not limited to drug reaction/overdose, formulary/non-formulary medications, and knowledge of medication costs
  • Be able to provide insight and direction to Medically Trained Personnel, as needed
  • Comply with all current and future state, federal, and local laws and regulations

Location:

Porter County Jail, Valparaiso, Indiana with availability to pick up shifts in neighboring counties, as well, if desired.

Shift Opening(s):

6AM to 6PM or 6PM to 6AM to pick up open shifts

Requirements:

• Valid RN or LPN licensure
• Valid CPR certification
• Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
• Must be able to push, pull, reach, and bend frequently
• Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds
