Responsibilities

• Deliver patient care promoting patient safety and well-being under the direction of a healthcare provider
• Assist providers and clinical staff with vital signs and preparation for examinations, treatments, and minor surgical procedures
• Draw and collect blood and other patient samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
• Administer vaccines and medications via oral, IM, SQ, or ID routes
• Place urinary catheters per protocol
• Schedule specialist and outpatient referrals and complete referral and laboratory requisition forms, including CPT/ICD-9 coding
• Track follow-up appointments, laboratory tests, and procedures to monitor disease status
• Document patient care in the electronic health record using standardized workflows
• Attend department meetings, read organizational communications, and check the intranet
• Educate patients and families using the Teach-back method
• Contribute to team goals, quality improvement, and customer service

Requirements

• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
• Licensed Practical Nurse college diploma or certificate of completion
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 30 days
• Competence in clinical skills necessary for assigned duties
