Qualifications

  • Must hold a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the state of practice.
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers certification required or obtainable within 45 days.
  • Completion of an accredited Practical Nursing program is required.
  • No previous experience required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organization and prioritization abilities.
  • Proficient computer skills and EMR systems familiarity.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and room patients for examinations, documenting vital signs.
  • Perform laboratory procedures using aseptic technique.
  • Assist physicians with procedures and surgeries including pelvic exams.
  • Administer medications under orders, including immunizations and insulin.
  • Initiate and manage limited IV therapy and fluids.
  • Provide patient education on procedures and self-care.
  • Maintain exam rooms, labs, and equipment; stock as needed.
  • Refer questions to RNs/physicians per scope of practice.
  • Document information accurately and timely for the health team.
  • Perform advanced clinical tasks such as suture removal, phlebotomy, EKGs, and wound care.

Job description

  • Prepare and room patients for examinations by obtaining vital signs and documenting or updating health information
  • Perform laboratory procedures using aseptic technique and standard precautions/infection-control guidelines
  • Assist physicians/providers with procedures and surgeries, including pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, and colposcopy
  • Administer medications under physician/provider orders, including immunizations, antibiotics, pain medications, vitamins, topical agents, and insulin
  • Initiate, maintain, and discontinue limited IV therapy and administer selected fluids with pre-mixed medications
  • Provide basic patient education on procedures, treatment, skills, and self-care
  • Follow through on procedure/test requests, prescription refills, appointments, and referrals
  • Refer questions to registered nurses and physicians/providers according to scope-of-practice guidelines
  • Communicate patient information accurately and promptly with physicians and the health care team
  • Perform advanced clinical tasks including suture and staple removal, catheterization, audiograms, phlebotomy, EKGs, spirometry, Holter monitoring, casting, and complex wound care
  • Organize, clean, stock, and maintain exam rooms, laboratories, and work areas; order supplies and maintain equipment
  • Perform patient positioning and transporting duties involving lifting and pushing/pulling
  • Complete routine maintenance and quality monitoring of clinic equipment and instruments
  • Participate in patient-centered initiatives, care management, performance, and quality-improvement activities
  • Perform other related duties as required
Requirements
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the state in which the team member practices
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), to be obtained within 45 days unless not required by the department leader
  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in Practical Nursing
  • No experience required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organization, prioritization, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient computer skills, including keyboarding, Windows navigation, electronic mail, and exposure to electronic medical records systems
  • Ability to provide age-appropriate patient care and understand growth and development across the life span
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs over the head, and carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance
  • Ability to push/pull with 30 lbs of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present
  • Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch, with fine-hand manipulation skills
  • Ability to operate all equipment essential to perform the job
