Job summary

Harbor's Edge/Fort Norfolk Retirement Community is seeking a compassionate full‑time LPN Night Supervisor to provide direct nursing care and lead night staff for our elderly residents across assisted living and memory care units.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years in long‑term care with supervisory experience, holds an LPN license for Virginia, and is CPR/First Aid certified. Vaccination and EMR experience are preferred; ability to lift and support mobility is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and current LPN license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• Minimum three (3) years of related experience in Assisted Living and/or Long‑Term Care, including at least one (1) year of nursing supervisory experience.
• Current COVID‑19 vaccination, CPR, and First Aid certification.
• ISP/UAI certification preferred; experience with EMR systems preferred.
• Ability to lift and assist residents (at least 50 lbs.) and perform physical tasks.
• Strong ability to assist residents safely with mobility and daily activities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to follow instructions and communicate with staff, residents, families, and visitors.
• Commitment to promoting resident safety and high‑quality care in compliance with policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to residents per care plans, promoting well‑being and independence.
• Supervise and coordinate nursing staff during night shifts, ensuring policy adherence.
• Perform resident assessments under the DON, document changes, report critical issues promptly.
• Administer medications, injections, monitor vitals, weights, and blood sugars.
• Implement restorative techniques including positioning and ADL training.
• Assist residents with transfers, ambulation, and activities of daily living.
• Support admissions, discharges, and transitions with accurate documentation.
• Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for staff to maintain high standards.

The ideal candidate will have senior living experience (e.g., long‐term care, assisted living, memory support) and a strong passion for working with an elderly population.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to residents in accordance with established care plans, promoting physical, personal, and emotional well‑being to maintain maximum levels of self‑care and independence.
• Supervise and coordinate nursing staff during night shifts, ensuring adherence to facility policies, procedures, and quality standards.
• Perform resident assessments under the direction of the Director of Nursing (DON), documenting changes in condition and reporting critical issues promptly to nursing and physician management.
• Administer medications, injections, and other authorized treatments; monitor and record vital signs, weights, and blood sugars.
• Implement restorative nursing techniques, including proper positioning, ADL training, and passive range of motion exercises.
• Assist residents with transfers, ambulation, and activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, oral care) using safe practices and equipment.
• Support resident admissions, discharges, and transitions, ensuring smooth coordination and accurate documentation.
• Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for staff, providing guidance, training, and feedback to maintain high‑quality care standards.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and current LPN license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• Minimum three (3) years of related experience in Assisted Living and/or Long‑Term Care, including at least one (1) year of nursing supervisory experience.
• Current COVID‑19 vaccination, CPR, and First Aid certification.
• ISP/UAI certification preferred; experience with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems preferred.
• Ability to lift and assist residents (at least 50 lbs.) and perform physical tasks including sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, reaching, pushing/pulling, and maintaining balance.
• Strong ability to assist residents safely with mobility, transfers, and daily activities while using proper body mechanics and equipment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to follow instructions accurately and communicate effectively with staff, residents, families, and visitors.
• Commitment to promoting resident safety, well‑being, and high‑quality care in compliance with facility policies and regulations.
