Job summary

Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, NM is seeking a compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for our Post Surgical Unit.

You will provide direct patient care for surgical patients under an RN, with focus on safe recovery and high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced acute care setting.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.
  • Current LPN license in the State of New Mexico.
  • BLS certification; ACLS within 6 months of hire.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care within LPN scope under RN supervision.
  • Implement and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
  • Monitor and document patient status; report changes to RN.
  • Administer medications and therapies per policies.
  • Assist with post-operative assessments and wound care.
  • Support mobility, pain management, and daily living activities.
  • Reinforce education for surgical recovery and discharge planning.
  • Collaborate with care team to ensure coordinated care.
  • Maintain accurate EHR documentation; ensure safety and infection control.

Summary: Presbyterian Hospital is seeking a compassionate and skilled Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our Post Surgical Unit. In this role, you will provide direct patient care and support patients recovering from a variety of surgical procedures, including orthopedic, general, vascular, urological, and other specialty surgeries. Working under the direction of a Registered Nurse, you will help ensure a safe, comfortable, and successful recovery experience for patients during their hospital stay. The ideal candidate is patient-focused, team-oriented, and committed to delivering exceptional care in a fast-paced acute care environment. In this role the LPN will provide direct patient care in the acute care setting of the emergency department or inpatient area utilizing various nursing skills and established standards of care at the direction of a registered nurse.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care within the LPN scope of practice under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Assist with the implementation and evaluation of individualized patient care plans.
  • Monitor and document patient status, reporting changes in condition to the Registered Nurse and healthcare team.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and therapies as prescribed and authorized by state regulations and organizational policies.
  • Assist with post-operative assessments, wound care, dressing changes, and patient recovery activities.
  • Support patients with mobility, ambulation, pain management, and activities of daily living.
  • Reinforce patient and family education related to surgical recovery, medications, discharge planning, and follow-up care.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, therapists, care coordinators, and ancillary departments to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic health record.
  • Adhere to all patient safety, infection prevention, and quality standards.
Qualifications
  • Required Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.
  • High School Diploma or GED required Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of New Mexico.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and ACLS withing 6 months of hire Basic Cardiac Arrythmia for areas with cardiac telemetry monitoring
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to provide compassionate care in a dynamic healthcare environment.
  • Preferred One (1) year of experience in post-surgical, medical-surgical, acute care, or inpatient nursing preferred Experience caring for post-operative patients.
  • Knowledge of surgical recovery protocols and pain management principles.
  • Experience with electronic health record systems.
