Job summary

Compass Oncology is seeking an experienced LPN or Medical Assistant to support the Breast Oncology team at West Cancer Center in Tigard, OR. The role involves frontline nursing care, patient education, and coordinating with physicians, nurses, and schedulers.

The position is Full-Time, 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday, with patient-focused care within a multidisciplinary team. Compensation aligns with state standards and internal equity.

Qualifications

• High school graduate; practical nursing program graduate for LPN role.
• 3+ years as a practical nurse; phlebotomy preferred; current LPN license & registration; BLS within 3 months of hire.
• High school graduate; Medical Assistant program certificate preferred; CPR certification.
• 1–3 years as medical assistant or nursing assistant; phlebotomy preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide general nursing care per established standards.
• Administer wound care, bladder scans, and other treatments.
• Assist with equipment prep and physician during exams/procedures.
• Record patient data: vitals, allergies, meds, and changes.

We are looking for an experienced LPN or MA to support our outpatient practice within our Breast Oncology team. This position will support our West Cancer Center in Tigard, OR. Nurses working at Compass are an important part of the interdisciplinary team that supports the extraordinary care provided to our patients. This individual will work alongside our gynecology oncology team, that includes our providers, an RN, Medical Assistants, and schedulers. The team's primary focus is to work collectively to help guide our patients through their cancer care journey. The qualified individual will be utilizing the nursing process addressing the acute and chronic needs of the patient with a cancer diagnosis, answering clinical questions, and gathering information for our providers to inform care delivery decisions.

Employment Type: Full-Time, 40 Hours M-F

Salary Range LPN: $26.41-$44.59 per hour

Salary Range Medical Assistant: $21.09-$35.65 Per Hour

Scope

Under general supervision, provides general nursing care for patients following established standards and practices for the licensed practical nurse within the state of WA. This individual will promote efficient patient flow and assist with patient care adhering to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and Responsibilities

Provides General Nursing Care To Patients, To Include

• Screen patients for appropriate information.
• Administers treatments such as wound care, bladder scans, void trials, etc. in accordance with nursing standards.
• Assists with the preparation of equipment and aids physician during examination and procedures.
• Observes, records, and reports patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to providers.
• Orders/prescribes medications as directed by provider.
• Provides patient education, to include pre/post operative patient education on procedures, medications, and recovery expectations.
• Responds to/refers incoming telephone calls. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
• Recognizes when escalation is required to RN to maintain compliance with nurse practice act and state regulations for LPNs.
• Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and current medication reconciliation.
• Performs EKG and oximetry readings as requested by the provider.
• Send referrals, place orders, and request medical records as outlined by the provider.
• Maintain patient files, records, and other information.
• Initiate IV fluids and IV therapeutic medications in accordance with LPN/LVN state nurse practice act.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment room as appropriate.
• Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
• Obtains all necessary patient records as required by physician prior to treatment or procedures.
• Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed.
• Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
• Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, including but not limited to, hormones and biological growth factors.
• Maintains all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
• Processes instruments and equipment as needed.
• Answers patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
• Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as required or directed by physicians.
• Schedules patient tests, procedures and hospital admissions and schedules appointments to follow-upon test results, as applicable.
• Obtains new patient records and previous test results, x-rays, scans, etc.
• Demonstrates reliability and punctuality by consistently showing up on time and maintaining dependable attendance to support team operations and organizational goals.
• Performs other administrative duties, i.e. typing, filing faxing reception, etc, as requested by supervisor or physician.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications LPN

Education

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Graduate from an accredited school for practical nursing.

Experience/Training

• This position requires at least 3 years’ experience as a practical nurse.
• Phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Current LPN state license and registration with the State Board of Practical Nursing in practicing state.
• Current American Heart Association accredited BLS certification required within 3 months of hire.

Education

Minimum Qualifications MA

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants preferred.
• Current CPR certification required.

Experience/Training

• Minimum (1-3) years of experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant, preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience preferred.
