Description:The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for performing basic nursing duties.This includes executing physician orders, operating pill call and sick call, and assisting the physician during examinations and treatments.The role involves applying nursing skills in the care and treatment of patients.Nurses attend sick call with physicians to see patients, prepare a list of individuals for examination, and prepare the examination room and equipment.They operate pill call, dispense medication, and document as required by applicable policies and procedures.There is a responsibility for controlling medications, syringes, and other medical supplies or equipment as well as inventory management.Emergency procedures may need to be performed as necessary.Maintaining a clean work area and utilizing appropriate sanitation methods is essential.Documenting and reporting activities according to established policies and procedures is required, including medical file documentation.Nurses assist supervisors with evaluating the provision of all medical services to prevent inappropriate duplication of these services.Maintaining security and confidentiality of all medical records is critical.Observations and recordings of patient behavior are part of the responsibilities.The medical unit must be inspected for items that could be contraband.Nurses help prepare and maintain a variety of records, reports, and logs, ensuring appropriate grammar and organization.Reading, comprehending, and interpreting medical and technical procedures, as well as governmental regulations and legal documents, is necessary.They may need to respond to lawsuits through corporate counsel and attend court hearings when required.Effective communication is essential with administration, staff, patients, visitors, and the public.Engagement in ensuring physical safety requirements for a safe working environment is expected.Facilitating accreditation of the medical program by providing approved medical services is also part of the responsibilities.Nurses must prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports as required by policies and procedures.Movement of patients to and from various areas for medical treatment is a routine task.Investigations and inquiries must be initiated and completed with accuracy when directed by gathering information and evidence.Working in confined areas and checking the security of doors, windows, and other areas is necessary.Awareness of potential verbal abuse in a challenging environment is essential to perform the role effectively.
