Position: Licensed Vocational Nurse
Position Summary

The LVN functions under the supervision of the charge nurse or registered nurse delegating any tasks within the scope of practice for an LVN. The LVN is responsible for providing safe, compassionate and focused nursing care to assigned patients with predictable health care needs, utilizing the principles of continuous quality improvement in collaboration with other health team members. Supports an organizational culture for Service Excellence and practices the Service Excellence Standards to all customer groups.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

The LVN assists in determining the physical and mental health status, needs, and preferences of culturally ethnically, and socially diverse patients and their families based on interpretation of health-related data. The LVN collects data and information, recognizes changes in conditions and reports this to the RN or charge nurse. The LVN cannot perform independent assessments as the LVN has a directed scope of practice under supervision. The LVN participates in the nursing process by appraising the individual patient’s status or situation at hand. Also known as a focused assessment, this appraisal may be a component of a more comprehensive assessment performed by an RN. The LVN will assess risks to patient safety and implement the appropriate precautions. The LVN will comply with appropriate and approved standards, as outlined by the organization and accrediting agencies. The LPN will comply with safety and injury prevention standards to minimize risk to self, co-workers, patients, and visitors. The concepts of the patient centered care delivery model will provide the foundation for all nursing care. Participates in and supports a process to measure, assess, and improve performance of management, clinical, and/or support services. Maintains regulatory compliance as related to The Joint Commission, Texas Department of State Health Services, and the Texas Board of Nursing.
