Job summary

Heritage Oaks Hospital, part of the Universal Health Services family, is located in northern Sacramento and provides acute psychiatric care for adolescents, adults, and seniors. We seek an LVN/LPT to deliver basic nursing care, support milieu safety, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team.

The LVN/LPT contributes to patient care by data collection, implementing therapeutic interventions, and assisting with crisis management in a structured, recovery‑oriented environment.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited LVN or LPT program.
• Minimum of one year psychiatric or behavioral health experience preferred.
• Demonstrated competency in therapeutic communication, crisis intervention, and milieu management.

Responsibilities

• Collect and document objective data, including vital signs, observed behaviors, patient statements, and physical findings.
• Report changes in patient condition promptly to the RN.
• Participate in admission processes by completing LVN/LPT‑appropriate sections of intake documentation.

The Mental Health Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) / Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) is a licensed professional who provides basic psychiatric nursing care, behavioral support, and milieu safety interventions under the clinical supervision of a Registered Nurse and in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. The LVN/LPT contributes to patient care by collecting data, implementing therapeutic interventions, administering medications within scope, supporting crisis management, and maintaining a safe, structured, recovery‑oriented environment for patients experiencing acute or chronic psychiatric conditions.

• Report changes in patient condition promptly to the RN.
• Participate in admission processes by completing LVN/LPT‑appropriate sections of intake documentation.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited LVN or LPT program.

Experience:

• Minimum of one (1) year psychiatric or behavioral health experience preferred
• Demonstrated competency in therapeutic communication, crisis intervention, and milieu management

Licensure & Certifications:

• Current California LVN or LPT license
• Current CPR certification
• Completion of Handle with Care (HWC) training within 30 days of hire
• Successful completion of medication administration and developmental competency exams

Additional Requirements:

• Ability to adapt to changing patient needs and acuity
• Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
