Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for the 6North Telemetry unit at UAB St. Vincent's East, Trussville, AL. The role focuses on patient assessment, medication administration, wound care, IV management, and family education.

You must be a licensed LPN in Alabama and obtain BLS certification within 30 days. Graduate from an accredited Practical Nursing program. This is a full‑time, on‑site opportunity with competitive benefits.

Unit Overview

6North is a private, 18‑bed unit specializing in the care of patients with diagnoses or comorbidities that warrant telemetry monitoring. Nurses on this unit develop or advance their skills to detect cardiovascular or medical issues, communicate with providers, and implement interventions to prevent emergent situations. Responsibilities include patient assessments, rhythm interpretation, lab value analysis, patient and family education, wound care, IV management, and medication administration and management.

Schedule

• Full‑Time Days – 3 12‑hour shifts, 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
• Full‑Time Nights – 3 12‑hour shifts, 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.

Work Location: UAB St. Vincent's East – Trussville, AL.

What You Will Do

• Contribute to the assessment of patients and assure the well‑being of patients.
• Administer medications and observe patients for adverse reactions.
• Perform laboratory tests and therapeutic services.
• Educate patients and families about disease treatment plans, including self‑care after discharge, holistic health needs, available resources, and follow‑up care.

What You Will Need

• Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
• BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of hire or transfer date (American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted).

Education
