Position Title:

LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse - South Freestanding Emergency Department - PRN - Days/Mids

Department:

SOKC Emergency Department

Job Description:

Location: 3025 SW 104th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73159

Shift: PRN, 7a-7p or 1p-1a

Under general supervision, provides preventative and health care to an assigned group of patients or clients in the OU Health facility.

Essential Responsibilities

Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the position. Inability to perform these responsibilities with or without an accommodation may result in disqualification from the position.

  • Assist with nursing assessments through data collection, observation, and obtaining vital signs on assigned patients or clients.
  • Provide care according to an established nursing plan.
  • Observe changes in patient's condition and notify supervisory personnel if significant changes occur.
  • Provide routine ostomy care, nasogastric tube placement and feeding, and placement and discontinuing of oral-gastric tubes. Initiate and monitor oxygen therapy according to physician orders or unit protocol.
  • Suction and clean tracheotomy sites.
  • Administer oral, intravenous, intramuscular, intra-dermal, subcutaneous, sub-lingual, vaginal, rectal, and topical medications.
  • Prepare patients for routine physical examinations and assist the physician during examinations.
  • An LPN may function as a Surgical Tech if the position is in the operating room and the role is available.
General Responsibilities

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Completion of educational requirements for NCLEX-PN examination.

Experience: None required; one or more years of experience preferred.

Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Required: Current LPN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate compact LPN License (eNLC). Current Basic Life Support certification issued by the American Heart Association is required upon hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theories, practices, techniques, and procedures.
  • Ability to organize, coordinate, plan, and evaluate the nursing needs of assigned patients.
  • Knowledge of operating room techniques if applying for a surgery position.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
