Job summary

Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs in Bemidji is seeking an LPN to provide person-centered nursing care in a long-term care setting. You will administer medications and treatments as ordered, under RN direction, with emphasis on accuracy and compassionate care.

This part-time position offers an evening shift from 2:00pm to 10:30pm, a competitive hourly rate plus a $2.25 shift differential for evenings and nights, and eligible benefits.

Qualifications

  • Licensed in Minnesota as a Practical Nurse with no restrictions and in good standing.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification or ability to obtain by date of hire.
  • Computer skills sufficient for electronic charting (PointClickCare).
  • Ability to communicate effectively, follow instructions, and maintain clear documentation.

Responsibilities

As an LPN for the Minnesota Veterans Home-Bemidji, you will provide person-centered nursing care for residents in a long-term care environment by delivering care and skilled procedures within the LPN scope of practice, as defined in the Minnesota Nurse Practice Act and in accordance with current federal, state and Veterans Administration regulations. An LPN administers medications and treatments to residents as ordered by a practitioner and under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

This position is designated as part-time and primarily evening shift. The work schedule will include at least 64 hours per 2-week pay period and may include additional work hours, based on business needs. This position is initially eligible for a full employer contribution towards health and dental insurance benefits.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Licensed in Minnesota as a Practical Nurse with no restrictions and in good standing.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross or the ability to be certified by the date of hire.
  • Computer skills sufficient to complete electronic charting, specifically in PointClickCare.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, follow instructions, and keep clear and accurate notes and documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a skilled nursing facility, long-term care, or other senior healthcare environment.
  • Experience working with Veterans.
  • Effective interpersonal skills in establishing and maintaining positive working relationships.
Additional Requirements
  • A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check may be conducted on the top finalist(s) for the position. When conducted, a finalist must pass the DHS background check.
  • A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x‑ray) is required prior to employment.
  • Employment reference checks will be conducted on finalists. This may include a review of documentation related to job performance and contact with the applicant's former employer(s).
