The Resource Pool offers endless opportunities to expand your nursing experiences. In joining Resource Pool, you will gain skills to provide quality care in a variety of units including Med‑Surg, PCU, and ICU. There are various specialty tracks for individualized interests which could include Peds, PICU, NICU, M/B, ED Observation Unit, Inpatient Rehab, and Psych. Training in ICUs to include Cardiac ICU, Medical ICU, Surgical ICU, Neurotrauma ICU, and more.

Responsibilities

• Practice practical nursing within the parameters set forth in Carilion Clinics Plans for the Provision of Patient Care and functions under the direction of a registered nurse or physician.
• Partner with the RN in collecting data, planning, implementing and evaluating patient/resident care.
• Participate in the nursing process for patients of all ages served.
• Communicate frequently with team members, ancillary departments and physicians.
• Contribute to the development of the patient/resident database and interdisciplinary plan of care.
• Identify patient/resident/family/caregiver educational needs, incorporate education into plan of care and document.
• Apply knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients/residents.
• Implement prescribed therapeutic treatment plans and procedures.
• Administer prescribed medication to patients/residents.
• Advocate for patients, be a protector of patients’ rights, and provide psychological/social/cultural support.
• Contribute to Carilion’s performance improvement activities and support service area/facility/organization initiatives.
• Contribute to the orientation and career development of others.
• May assign tasks as needed.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.
• Experience: None.
• Licensure, certification and/or registration: Licensed to practice practical nursing in the state of Virginia.
• In Psychiatry and Behavioral Health: De‑escalation training must be successfully completed within four months of hire and then maintained going forward.

Experience and licensure/certification requirements may vary by department. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development, possesses the ability to collect data reflective of the patient’s status, interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age and specific needs, and provides the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.
