The LPN job involves integrating technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet patient and family needs. This role assists the healthcare team with illness and injury prevention, wellness maintenance, and providing comfort. It also involves providing direction, education, and beginning to assume leadership responsibilities at the unit level.

The LPN delivers and accurately documents direct, age-specific care to patients based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary care plan. This role safely administers prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and interactions.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
  • Licensure, certification, or registration varies depending on the incumbent's employment background and transitional assignment.
  • LPN licensure in Virginia or eligibility for licensure.
Requirements for Continued Employment:
  • Current LPN Licensure in Virginia.
  • AHA BLS Certification or equivalent.
Experience:
  • REQUIRED: Varies based on transitional duty assignment.
  • PREFERRED: Experience as an LPN in an acute care setting or relevant to the area of practice.
Education/Training:
  • REQUIRED: Graduate from a Board of Nursing approved School of Practical Nursing.
  • PREFERRED: N/A.
Independent Actions:

Follows documented physician/licensed independent provider orders, standards, and practice guidelines, such as treatments, and organizes work to carry out assignments.
