Job summary

Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, LA seeks an LPN to join the Float Pool on a PRN basis. You will perform therapeutic and preventative nursing procedures, educate families, and support plan-of-care development for adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.

Requirements include LPN/LVN license, ACLS/BCLS within set windows, and 1 year of acute care experience. You will assist physicians, document care, and ensure safety and infection control across shifts.

Qualifications

• ACLS within 30 days of employment start date.
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention within 90 days of start date.
• LPN/LVN license or in process of licensure.
• Vocational School Graduate.
• BCLS within 30 days of employment start date.
• 1 year acute care experience required.

Responsibilities

• Performs therapeutic and preventative nursing procedures with individualized care and family education.
• Contributes to development of the patient’s plan of care and documents patient needs.
• Care for adolescents, adults and geriatrics with appropriate age-specific criteria.
• Educates patient/family to promote health behaviors and recovery.
• Carry out physician orders accurately within the LPN scope and clarify when needed.
• Assist physicians with rounds and communication between physician and patient.
• Assess patient responses and communicate progress to the health care team.
• Identify potential abuse victims and follow reporting procedures.
• Recognize adverse drug reactions and report appropriately.
• Assess and manage patient pain with age-appropriate interventions.
• Utilize patient care equipment safely per hospital policy.
• Promote infection control and standard precautions; escalate as needed.
• Inform Unit Manager or Nursing Supervisor of condition changes.
• Achieve goals related to job performance and complete required educational programs.

Job Summary And Qualifications

The Staff LPN performs therapeutic and preventative nursing procedures, incorporating fundamental biological and psychological principles in giving individualized care. Participates in developing preventative or long-term health plans for patients and/or families. Provides patient’s family education that will enhance their knowledge of their disease process in order to maintain their health status and prevent advancement and/or deterioration of their disease process. Patient care will include all adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.

What you will do in this role:

• Performs therapeutic and preventative nursing procedures, incorporating fundamental biological and psychological principles in giving individualized care. Participates in developing preventative or long-term health plans for patients and/or families. Provides patient’s family education that will enhance their knowledge of their disease process in order to maintain their health status and prevent advancement and/or deterioration of their disease process. Patient care will include all adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
• Contribute to the development of the patient’s plan of care through identification and communication of patient’s need to the RN, evident by reporting and documentation.
• Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to the following age groups; adolescent, adult, geriatric.
• Provide patient/family health education that promotes health behaviors, supports recovery and enables the patients and/or family to be involved in decisions and their plan of care.
• Physician orders are carried out accurately and efficiently and clarified when necessary within the scope of practice governing LPNs.
• Assist physicians with patient rounds enhancing communication between the physician and the patient.
• The patient’s responses to intervention and progress toward desired outcomes are assessed, reassessed and communicated to health care team. (i.e., changes in patient condition or behavior, education needs assessed)
• Able to identify potential or actual victims of abuse and understands proper reporting mechanism.
• Able to recognize adverse drug reactions and demonstrates understanding of proper reporting mechanism once reaction is identified.
• Appropriately assesses the patient’s pain and involves the patient in effective management of that pain using age appropriate interventions.
• Patient care equipment is utilized safely and efficiently in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
• Standard Precautions are promoted and followed in the utilization of principles of infection control in patient care.
• The Unit Manager, Charge Nurse, or Nursing Supervisor is informed of changes in the patients’ conditions and guidance is solicited when appropriate.
• Achieves stated goals related to job performance.
• Educational records reveal attendance at all required educational programs/in-services.

What qualifications you will need:

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
• (LPN/LVN) Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
