Job summary

Care New England’s Emergency Department is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join the ED healthcare team. Under RN supervision, you will provide routine nursing care, monitor vitals, and assist with care coordination, while supervising nursing assistants.

You will help ensure high-quality patient experiences within scope of practice. The role emphasizes patient observation, adherence to policies, and collaboration with the care team to support timely diagnostics and treatment.

Qualifications

  • Vocational/technical training in Nursing.
  • A minimum of one year’s job-related experience.
  • RI State Licensure is also required.

Job Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) functions as a member of the emergency department healthcare team while delivering excellent care and exemplary customer service. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) the LPN provides routine nursing care, observes patients’ vital signs and general health, and assists other caregivers as directed. He/she provides supervision and delegation of appropriate tasks to nursing assistants and unlicensed assistive personnel (UAPs) within the assigned care team. Performs other duties as assigned to ensure the highest level of service is provided within applicable scope of practice.

Duties & Responsibilities

Assists with the ongoing observation of assigned patients. Monitors patients for new or worsening symptoms and shares findings with other members of the healthcare team as needed.

Provides nursing care to assigned patients in accordance with established policies, procedures, and safety precautions. Skills typically performed by the LPN include (but are not limited to) administration of medications, measurement of vital signs, removal/application of dressings, and collection/labeling of specimens such as blood and urine for diagnostic testing.

Ensures patient and/or patient’s delegate is kept informed about overall condition, treatment plan, and anticipated follow‑up care/diagnostics. Elicits feedback from patient and/or patient’s delegate to evaluate understanding of information and to ensure the best possible patient experience is provided.

Documents within the medical record in accordance with hospital policies.

Assists providers and patients during examinations and procedures/diagnostics as required.

Maintains a safe, comfortable, therapeutic environment for patients in accordance with hospital standards.

Responds to emergencies (i.e. code blue, code red, and others) in accordance with established practices.

Assumes responsibility for own professional development by setting goals and striving to achieve them. Makes use of available resources such as seminars, in‑services, and other training.

Recognizes scope of responsibilities and functions within limitations of job description. Demonstrates and maintains competency in relevant clinical and technical skills according to established standards of practice and implements appropriate emergency nursing actions.

Performs all other related duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department.

Requirements

Vocational/technical training in Nursing

A minimum of one year’s job‑related experience or equivalent is required

RI State Licensure is also required.
