Brief Description

Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) administers medically prescribed treatments, coordinates nursing care, and monitors the performance of acceptable standards of nursing care on his/her assigned unit.

The LPN must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care for residents, from adults to geriatrics, including understanding growth and development principles. The role involves participating in planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care, following departmental policies and procedures.

Supervision and Reporting

Supervision exercised: Team Leader. Reports to: Nurse Aides.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a geriatric setting preferred.
  • Current license as a Licensed Practical Nurse issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nurse Examiners or eligibility.
  • CPR certification (must be obtained if not already held) and maintained.

Additional Requirements

  • Clearances: PA State Police criminal history check, PA Department of Aging FBI fingerprint clearance (if applicable).
  • Ability to provide care appropriate to residents’ age and needs.
  • Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong management skills.

Physical Demands

Heavy work involving exerting 50-100 lbs. of force occasionally, 25-50 lbs. frequently, and 10-25 lbs. constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects. Ability to transport self throughout the facility.

Work Environment

Works in resident living areas with occasional exposure to blood, body substances, and needle sticks.
