POSITION SUMMARY:

Under supervision, the Recovery LPN will provide clinical and administrative support in the BMC Brockton Behavioral Health Clinical Stabilization Services (CSS) unit under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse, CSS Program Director and Patient Care Director/ACNO. The Recovery LPN will facilitate patient access to recovery-oriented SUD treatment, resources and community recovery groups with an emphasis on medication administration and evaluation. This position will maintain ongoing patient support regardless of relapse and will serve as a motivator, ally, role model, problem-solver and advocate for patients. The LPN should possess a thorough understanding of addiction associated co-morbidities to better tailor clinical evaluation and care. This position requires good organizational skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:


  • Engage patients in a residential treatment setting


  • Assists with providing patient care: record vital signs; discuss and document chief health concerns.


  • Perform and record specialized testing included but not limited to EKGs, urine HCG, and urine drug screening.


  • Prepare and safely administer medications, including but not limited to immunizations, flu shots, and other injections.


  • Record administration of medications and maintain count of controlled substances. Communicate with the provider and with on-site pharmacy about medication needs.


  • Maintain clean and orderly medication room and administration area.


  • Maintain quality control testing of point-of-care lab equipment.


  • Perform nursing type duties specific to the department. For example, may apply dressings, and other wound care as directed.


  • Triage sick complaints from residential patients. Perform initial evaluation including vitals signs and report to provider on call.


  • In collaboration with the behavioral health counselor, assist patients in the development and implementation of a recovery plan, adults struggling with SUD, MH or Dual Diagnoses;


  • Provide on-going support and follow up as necessary to support recovery and healthy life style; support and understand different paths to recovery;


  • Use language that conveys caring and is non-judgmental and utilize motivational enhancement techniques and motivational interviewing that helps encourage patients to identify and prioritize their personal needs;


  • Documents patient encounters, resource development efforts, and other interventions for each patient, including date, time, and signature in the electronic medical record.


  • Conforms to hospital standards of performance and conduct, including those pertaining to patient rights and privacy


  • Utilizes hospital's policies and standards as the basis for decision making and to support the hospital's mission and goals.


  • Performs other duties assigned or as necessary.

JOB DESCRIPTION CHARACTERISTICS

EDUCATION:


  • High school diploma or equivalent


  • LPN diploma for accredited institution


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:


  • Current license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse.


  • CPR & BLS/First Aid certified upon hire


EXPERIENCE:


  • Previous experience working with substance abuse patient populations preferred.


  • *Preferred proficiency in Epic EMR


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:


  • Knowledge of community, social, and health resources, particularly substance use-related resources.


  • Expertise in establishing working relationships with patients, their family, professionals, and the community, including the ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary health care team.


  • Computer competency, inclusive of the ability to access and enter data.


  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, inclusive of organizational skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.


  • Verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to facilitate interactions with members of the health care team, patients, and their families.


  • Bilingual or multi-lingual skills (beyond that of English) appropriate to the patient population served, is preferred.


  • Demonstrated flexibility with client's priorities, evolving needs, and goals.


  • Sensitivity to ethnic, cultural, gender, and sexual orientation diversity; values; beliefs; and behaviors.
