Job summary

Pediatrics Northwest, PS is hiring a Specialty Licensed Practical Nurse (Allergy and Asthma) to support clinicians across Tacoma, Gig Harbor, and Federal Way locations. This full-time role involves allergy testing, immunotherapy, and assisting with pediatric asthma management.

The LPN will administer medications, perform routine procedures, educate families, and maintain accurate EMR documentation under supervision. Travel between clinic sites is required as staffing needs arise.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program and current WA LPN license.
  • Current Healthcare Provider BLS Certification.
  • Experience with EMR systems and maintaining patient records.

Job description

Job Title: Specialty Licensed Practical Nurse (Allergy and Asthma)

Work Location: Tacoma, Gig Harbor, and Federal Way. Occasional travel to other clinic locations based on staffing needs is required, as determined by the Managers or Administrators.

Schedule: Full-time, 10-hour days, variable days per week. No nights, no weekends, and closed for major holidays.

Pay: $33.21 - $46.21 per hour. Salary commensurate with experience.

Position Summary

The Specialty Licensed Nurse (LPN) is responsible for supporting clinicians in the delivery of asthma and allergy patient care, including point-of-care testing and clinical workflow. This role is essential to providing high-quality care and assisting with medical procedures, administering medications, and providing health education to families, under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or a clinician.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Obtains patient medical history, reviews medication dosage and frequency, patient allergens, and confirms purpose of visit or treatment.
  • Obtains vital signs, to include height, weight, measures head circumference, temperature, respirations, pulse rate, and blood pressure.
  • Obtains pulse oximetry.
  • Conducts allergy testing, including intradermal and prick testing.
  • Assists Providers and RN with food challenges, medication challenges, and other in-clinic procedures.
  • Performs routine specialized procedures, such as pulmonary function tests (FeNO and spirometry), under established protocols.
  • Immunotherapy administration as outlined on the Allergy Injection Record after thoroughly reviewing the Allergy/Immunology Pre-Injection Questionnaire.
  • Medication administration as directed and ordered by the Clinician.
  • Documents patient information, assessments, procedures, and treatments accurately, objectively, and in a timely manner within the electronic medical record.
  • Monitors patients during treatments and procedures, recognizing and promptly reporting changes in patient condition to the Provider or RN.
  • Prioritizes patient safety during medication administration, allergy testing, immunotherapy, biologic therapy, and other specialty procedures.
  • Reinforces patient and family education regarding asthma, allergy conditions, medications, treatment plans, and home care as directed by the Clinician or RN.
  • Reviews assigned EMR message pools and patient communications, addressing requests within the LPN scope of practice and routing concerns appropriately.
  • Assists with medication refill requests according to clinic-established policies and protocols.
  • Enters any procedure or order results into the EMR system.
  • Cleans and sanitizes exam and treatment rooms between patient visits.
  • Stocks exam rooms with all needed supplies (gloves, table paper, Kleenex, etc.) daily.
  • Monitor and refill allergy trays promptly.
  • Document the minimum/maximum temperatures for each fridge daily.
  • Participates in daily treatment room safety checks and helps ensure emergency equipment and supplies are available and ready for use.
  • Exercises emergency preparedness, responding quickly and effectively to patient emergencies, especially during procedures with high risk of anaphylaxis and assists the Provider and RN during treatment of allergic reactions and anaphylaxis.
  • Collaborates with Clinicians, Registered Nurses, Medical Assistants, and Patient Access staff to coordinate safe, efficient patient care.
  • Maintains accurate and strict confidentiality of patient information in EMR system.
  • Delivers compassionate support, attention, and assistance to our patients and families.
  • Performs all duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma (or GED) and graduation from an accredited Practical Nursing program.
  • Washington State Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
  • Current Healthcare Provider BLS Certification.
