Job summary

Covenant Health’s Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join the Surgery Unit for full-time night shifts (72 hours per pay period). The position focuses on delivering nursing care under RN supervision, with duties spanning admission history, care planning, and patient education.

Ideal candidates are licensed LPNs in Tennessee with no prior required experience, and a commitment to compliance with hospital policies and infection control

Qualifications

• Must be licensed by the Tennessee Board of Nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
• No prior experience as an LPN/LVN required
• Experience requirements subject to regulatory/licensing standards as issued by the governing authority

Responsibilities

• Initiates admission database and history, collaborating with the RN to teach and address patient care needs.
• Performs nursing duties in compliance with regulatory standards and hospital policies.
• Prioritizes and performs nursing care tasks.
• Follows the nursing plan of care and pertinent medical orders under RN direction.
• Observes and reports patient responses and documents promptly and clearly.
• Recognizes and reports changes in patient conditions to the RN Team Leader.
• Participates in unit QA activities and patient care conferences as requested.
• Demonstrates infection control principles and collaborates with infection control nurse for patient safety.
• Assists in orienting new staff to unit routines.
• Administers IV venipuncture and parenteral fluids per hospital protocol.
• Performs advanced patient care treatments as approved by hospital protocol.
• Follows policies and completes required education; participates in quality improvement initiatives.
• Performs other duties as assigned

Position Summary:

The LPN/LVN will provide nursing care under supervision of a registered nurse, within an assigned unit.

Responsibilities

• Initiates admission database and history, and in collaboration with the RN implements patient and family teaching and care needs.
• Practices in compliance with all regulatory standards and adheres to all hospital policy and procedures in the performance of duties.
• Performs and prioritizes nursing care tasks.
• Accurately follows the nursing plan of care and pertinent medical orders in collaboration and under direction of a RN.
• Observes and reports nursing interventions and patient responses, and documents in a timely, concise and legible manner.
• Recognizes, responds, and reports changes in patient conditions to RN Team Leader.
• Participates in unit specific quality assurance activities and patient care conferences as requested.
• Demonstrates principles of infection control; collaborates with infection control nurse to ensure safety of patients, visitors, and personnel.
• Assists in orienting new employees or students to unit routines.
• Administers IV venipuncture and parenteral fluids per established hospital protocol.
• Performs specific advanced patient care treatments as approved to perform per hospital protocol.
• Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

Minimum Experience:

No prior experience as a LPN/LVN needed.

Licensure Requirement:

Currently licensed by the Tennessee Board of Nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
