Job description

As a Counseling Intern with Know Thyself Healing & Therapy, you will gain real‑world experience within a growing trauma‑informed private practice while completing your graduate program requirements.

This internship is designed to provide a gradual and supportive transition into clinical practice. Interns begin by observing client sessions and learning directly from their site supervisor before progressively assuming greater clinical responsibilities and developing their own caseload. Our goal is not only to help you become a competent therapist but also to help you discover your unique strengths, interests, and future direction as a clinician.

Interns will primarily provide services in person at our Minnetonka office. While telehealth opportunities may be available as training progresses, we believe in‑person therapy provides invaluable experience in understanding therapeutic relationships, developing clinical presence, and learning the subtle interpersonal dynamics that contribute to effective treatment.

Learning Experience
  • Observe client sessions conducted by your site supervisor during the initial phase of training
  • Gradually transition into providing therapy services under supervision
  • Build confidence through hands‑on experience with increasing levels of responsibility
  • Explore various client populations, treatment approaches, and clinical specialties
  • Develop a deeper understanding of private‑practice operations and professional development
  • Learn what it takes to build a sustainable and meaningful career as a mental‑health professional
Responsibilities
  • Provide counseling services under supervision to children, adolescents, adults, and families
  • Develop and maintain a clinical caseload appropriate to your training level and academic requirements
  • Complete intake assessments, treatment planning, progress notes, and other required documentation
  • Participate in weekly individual supervision and weekly group supervision
  • Attend clinical consultation and case review meetings with experienced therapists
  • Complete a mutually agreed‑upon special project designed to support professional growth and learning objectives
  • Maintain ethical and professional standards consistent with academic and licensing expectations
  • Engage actively in learning opportunities, consultation, and self‑reflection throughout the internship experience
What We Offer
  • Weekly individual supervision and weekly group supervision
  • Stipend paid twice during the academic term
  • Direct experience within a trauma‑informed private practice setting
  • Exposure to diverse client populations, diagnoses, and presenting concerns
  • Opportunities to explore clinical specialties, populations, and therapeutic modalities
  • Mentorship focused on both clinical competence and professional identity development
  • Flexible scheduling as training progresses
  • A supportive team of clinicians dedicated to teaching, consultation, and professional growth
  • Insight into private‑practice operations, marketing, networking, and long‑term career development
Who Thrives Here

The interns who thrive at Know Thyself are passionate about helping others and equally committed to understanding themselves. They see supervision as more than a requirement and view their internship as an opportunity to explore who they are becoming as clinicians. They are curious, growth‑oriented, and excited to learn from both their successes and challenges.

At Know Thyself Healing & Therapy, we believe that learning to help others begins with learning to know yourself. Our internship experience is designed to support that journey while providing the skills, confidence, and mentorship needed for a successful future in the counseling profession.

Requirements

Know Thyself Healing & Therapy is seeking a Master’s‑Level Counseling Intern working toward licensure as an LPC/LPCC who is passionate about helping others heal while developing their own identity as a future therapist. This internship is designed for counseling students who want more than simply completing required hours—it is for individuals seeking meaningful mentorship, hands‑on clinical experience, and a deeper understanding of what it takes to build a successful and fulfilling career in mental health.

We are looking for interns who are curious, reflective, and committed to both personal and professional growth.

Ideal Candidate
  • Be actively enrolled in a Master’s‑level Counseling program
  • Be eligible for practicum or internship placement through their academic institution
  • Have an interest in working with children, adolescents, and families
  • Be willing to work with adult clients as part of a diverse learning experience
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Embrace a trauma‑informed and client‑centered approach to care
  • Be open to feedback, supervision, and ongoing professional development
  • Demonstrate professionalism, ethical decision‑making, and personal accountability
  • Be comfortable learning and utilizing technology for documentation, scheduling, and telehealth services
  • Value authenticity, collaboration, curiosity, and lifelong learning
