Job summary

The Steward School in Richmond, VA is seeking a passionate Lower School Visual Arts Teacher for an immediate mid-year start for the 2026–2027 academic year. This full-time position emphasizes creativity, collaboration, and the integration of educational technology in a supportive independent school community.

Responsibilities include planning engaging lessons across Lower School, differentiating instruction, maintaining an inclusive classroom, and supporting school-wide art displays and events.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or Elementary Education required.
• Master's degree and/or Virginia state teaching certification strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to integrate technology in teaching.
• Experience fostering creativity and inclusive learning environments.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and deliver creative visual arts instruction across Lower School.
• Differentiate instruction to support diverse learning styles and developmental levels.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive classroom environment and encourage creative risk-taking.
• Integrate technology (Google Workspace, interactive boards, digital gradebooks) to enhance learning.
• Collaborate with grade-level teachers, specialists, and school leadership.
• Curate student artwork displays and assist with art exhibitions.
