Job description

St. George’s Independent School seeks a passionate, creative and hard-working individual who is energized by work with families to serve as the Lower School Music Teacher, beginning August, 2025.

Type: Salary

Duration: Annual Letter of Agreement

Minimum Education: Bachelor of Music or a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education required; Master’s degree in music or the teaching of music preferred

Qualifications:

  • ORFF certification preferred, or willingness to obtain ORFF certification
  • Piano proficiency preferred
  • Instrumental and choral teaching experience in early childhood and/or elementary age children
  • Strong interpersonal skills with students and adults; patience, flexibility, empathy, and humor important

The successful candidate will possess skills and experience that would include the ability to:

  • Teach general music classes to grades 2K--5th with a child development approach

Implement music experiences in an interdisciplinary relationship with the curriculum

  • Differentiate instruction so that all learners are engaged and build skills
  • Foster a classroom environment where students feel comfortable to take risks, make mistakes, and be curious
  • Produce and support various concert and grade-level performances
  • Participate in the school community, including school duties, meetings, and events
  • Provide piano accompaniment for chapel services as schedule allows
  • Direct and produce at least one Lower School musical per year

Physical Requirements: Regularly sit, turn, bend, reach, walk, talk, hear, and interact with campus visitors as well as others who telephone. Must have the ability to understand and present materials and communicate with constituents and co-workers in a harmonious manner.
