Job description

LOWER SCHOOL TEACHING ASSISTANT (PART-TIME)

St. Michael’s Episcopal School seeks a qualified part-time Lower School Teaching Assistant for the 2025-2026 academic year. The Assistant will support teachers with the instruction of kindergarten students. This is a ten-month position, beginning in August. (Note: This position has an opportunity to be paired with a part-time teaching position in our afternoon Extended Day program for full-time employment and benefits.)

The successful candidate will have…

  • excellent verbal and written skills and ability to communicate with students, parents, and colleagues;
  • experience teaching/working with elementary-aged children;
  • training and experience in reading support for students in the lower elementary grades;
  • a bachelor’s degree in education or a related field. An advanced degree is preferred, though not required.

  • used a variety of instructional strategies and assessment methods to meet the cognitive and social-emotional needs of all students;
  • worked cooperatively with colleagues on a consistent basis;
  • integrated technology effectively into student learning;
  • demonstrated kindness, enthusiasm, a sense of humor, investment in continued learning and professional growth, and a passion for supporting children as they grow and learn;
  • worked actively to cultivate an inclusive environment and support a school community grounded in empathy, social responsibility, and an appreciation and respect for individual differences;
  • employed effective classroom management skills;
  • demonstrated success in significantly growing students’ capacity to communicate in a variety of forms, lead among them writing.
