Position Summary
The Hewitt School is seeking an experienced lower school associate teacher for the 2025-2026 school year.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
- Co-teach or lead homeroom subjects (reading, writing, math, social studies, phonics/word study, etc.) to small and large groups of students
- Prepare classroom materials daily
- Assist with classroom management in homeroom and co-curricular classes when necessary
- Assess students across academic subjects
- Participate in faculty/staff, division, team, and grade-level meetings
- Participate in parent/guardian/teacher conferences and in learning support meetings
- Collaborate with head teacher to write progress reports
- Support head teacher with parent/guardian communications and newsletters
- Supervise students at recess, lunch, and out of school events (field trips, concerts, etc.)
- Escort students between classrooms and school buildings
- Serve as an in-house substitute teacher when head teachers are out
- Attend school events
- Pursue relevant professional development opportunities
- Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications Required
- Experience with early childhood or elementary-aged children
- Demonstrated commitment to anti-bias education and social justice
- A deep appreciation for student‐centered, engaging, and innovative teaching practices
- Master’s degree in education, or currently pursuing such a degree
- High emotional intelligence and a sense of humor
Qualifications Desired
- Knowledge of independent school culture and functioning preferred, but not required
- Culturally responsive approach to teaching
- Fluency in multiple student-centered instructional approaches
- Proficient with Mac platforms; comfortable with technology or demonstrated ability to learn quickly
- Commitment to student life
- Proven dedication to professional growth and purpose-driven practice
- Professional practice and ability to model contemplation as part of intellectual exploration
- Support admissions process by participating in admissions events and in conversations with prospective families
SALARY RANGE
Starting Salary Range: $52,000 to $56,000 (salary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience and expertise)
