Job summary

Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. (ESS) seeks a professional truck driver with a Class A CDL and Tank endorsement to operate a tractor-trailer, load and secure heavy equipment on lowboy trailers, and transport to job sites. Pre-trip/post-trip inspections, logs, and safety compliance are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class A CDL with Tank endorsement.
  • Valid DOT Med Cert with Non-Excepted Interstate self-certification.
  • Minimum of 3 years operating lowboy trailers and transporting heavy equipment.
  • Hazardous Materials endorsement preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of FMCSA regulations and best practices for equipment transport.
  • Ability to read, understand and navigate maps and routes.
  • Willingness to travel to various job sites as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a tractor trailer to reduce risk and liabilities.
  • Load and secure heavy equipment onto the trailer per regulations.
  • Measure load dimensions and weight for permit compliance.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and document results.
  • Maintain records of mileage, fuel, maintenance, and hours worked.
  • Communicate with project managers and team members to coordinate transport schedules.
  • Follow Emery Sapp & Sons safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform basic maintenance on truck and trailer as needed.
  • Assist with loading/unloading at job sites; heavy lifting may be required.
  • Travel extensively to various job sites; navigate using maps or GPS.
  • Wear PPE and log hours using an ELD in compliance with HOS.

Job description

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Safely operate a tractor trailer in a manner that reduces risk and liabilities.
  • Load and secure heavy construction equipment and machinery onto the trailer for transport in accordance with State and Federal regulations.
  • Accurately measure load dimensions and weight to ensure compliance with OS/OW permit requirements and State and Federal regulations.
  • Perform and properly document pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the truck and trailer to ensure they are in a safe and legal condition.
  • Maintain accurate records of trip details, including mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance reports and hours worked.
  • Communicate effectively with project managers, equipment operators, and other team members to coordinate equipment transport and delivery schedules in a direct and friendly manner.
  • Always adhere to Emery Sapp & Sons safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform basic maintenance and repairs on the truck and trailer when necessary.
  • Assist with loading and unloading equipment and materials at job sites as needed.
  • Occasional heavy lifting.
  • Extensive travel may be required.
  • Accurately navigate a tractor trailer using instructions, maps or GPS, to a wide variety of locations both on road and off.
  • Properly wear and safely use PPE.
  • Properly record hours worked using an ELD in compliance with Hours of Service regulations.
  • Documenting equipment pick up and deliveries.
  • Ensuring accuracy of pickup and delivery.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class A CDL with Tank endorsement.
  • Valid DOT Med Cert with Non-Excepted Interstate self-certification.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience operating lowboy trailers and transporting heavy equipment preferred.
  • Hazardous Materials endorsement on CDL preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and best practices for equipment transport.
  • Ability to operate equipment during loading and unloading processes.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Basic mechanical skills for minor truck and trailer maintenance.
  • Willingness to travel to various job sites as needed.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to read, understand and navigate using paper and/or digital maps.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
