Position Summary

TheLow Voltage Technicianis responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of infrastructure and low voltage telecommunications systems within a data center environment. This role requires a thorough understanding of infrastructure and low voltage systems, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The Low Voltage Technician ensures that all infrastructure/low voltage systems are installed and operating efficiently and in compliance with relevant codes and standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Infrastructure/Low Voltage Installation and Maintenance:


· Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, including security caging, hot/cold aisle containment, floor structures, telecommunications conveyance, telecommunications cabling, network rack/cabinet installations, IT equipment rack & stack and IT migrations in strict adherence to building, construction and industry codes and standards.

· Perform routine quality inspections of infrastructure/low voltage systems and equipment to ensure proper installation to design and safety.

· Troubleshoot and diagnose telecommunications issues, implementing effective and efficient solutions.

2. Compliance and Safety:

· Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal regulations and codes.

· Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.

· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and practices.

· Report any unsafe conditions or practices to supervisors immediately.

3. Equipment and Tools:

· Utilize appropriate tools and equipment for infrastructure/low voltage work, ensuring they are maintained in good condition.

· Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings related to electrical systems to determine the layout of the electrical systems, as well as customer needs.

4. Team Collaboration and Communication:

· Work closely with other project management, other trades, and data center staff to coordinate projects and tasks.

· Collaborate with the team to ensure all systems are installed, tested, and commissioned within the project timeline.

· Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding project status and any issues that arise.

· Provide guidance and training to apprentices and less experienced electricians as needed.

· Assist in keeping work areas clean and organized.

5. Documentation:

· Maintain accurate records of work performed, including tasks completed and materials used.

· Assist in preparing reports on project status as required.

6. Emergency Response:

· Respond promptly to emergency situations, including client outages and system failures, to minimize downtime.

· Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support as required.

7. Travel:

· Travel 60-70% to various data center locations or project sites as required.

· Ensure compliance with travel policies and procedures while maintaining high standards of work at different locations.

Experience

· 2 years of experience in infrastructure installation (caging, floor structures and/or containment systems)

· 2 years of experience in low voltage installation (telecommunications cabling, conveyance, rack/cabinet installation, grounding systems…)

· 1 year of experience in a data center industry or similar preferred.

· Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

· Excellent understanding of low voltage principles and concepts in accordance with industry, local and national codes/standards

· Ability to self-motivate and manage assigned workflow in both independent and team settings.

· Ability to read and interpret technical documents.

· Strong organizational and time management skills.

· Proficiency with infrastructure/low voltage tools tools and equipment such as hand tools, saws, wire tuggers, cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, network cabling testers, UTP/coaxial termination tools, fiber optic connectorization tools.

· Operate and work from mechanical personnel lifts, electric or gas powered.

· Operate company vehicles with automatic transmissions of less than 26,000 GVW.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

· Must be at a minimum of 18 years of age.

· Work a 40-hour work week, overtime as required and night shifts when applicable.

· Have and maintain a current, valid, and in good standing Driver’s License that will meet the requirements of our insurance company to drive company vehicles.

· Able to pass a background check and drug screen

Education/Certifications

· High School degree or GED required.

· Certifications in low voltage (BICSI Installer, BISCI Technician, etc) are a preferred, but not required

· Additional certifications (OSHA, NFPA 70E, FOA, BICSI, etc) are a plus.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.   • Work is performed in a data center environment, which may include exposure to electrical hazards, noise, and varying temperatures.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as required by the needs of the project demands.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead.
  • Lift arms above shoulder level.
  • Lift minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Climb ladders (all types of step ladders, frame ladders, and all size extension ladders). Being able to carry and relocate up to 12 ft. step ladders by oneself. Be able to go up and down stairways daily. Perform work at various heights, up to 90 feet from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, or other safe work areas.
  • Work in restricted areas: switchgear rooms, manholes, vaults, trenches, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, and attics or other spaces required to perform electrical work.
  • Be able to wear all (PPE) Personal Protection Equipment.
  • Complete overhead work for a full day assignment.
  • Must be able to make transition from employee parking or street into construction work areas and to gain access to all levels of the building, even if the only means of access is by OSHA approved site construction ladder or stairs still under construction but acceptable and safe to use.
  • Good vision and hearing (normal or corrected). Correctly identify colors.
  • Since some projects are located where there are no places to eat lunch or obtain food you would be required to bring your lunch and any necessary snacks or drinks.
  • Able to utilize job site sanitary facilities (Porta-Johns).
  • Ability to Travel 60%-70% of the time. Travel may be regional or national
