Job summary

HP IQ, HP’s AI innovation lab in San Francisco, invites students to join as Software Engineering Interns on the Systems team. You will work on low-level software close to hardware, exploring how complex systems operate and optimizing performance across software layers.

You’ll tackle memory management, concurrency, and system resources while collaborating with firmware and hardware teams to deliver meaningful projects.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in a technical field such as CS, CE, EE, math or physics.
• Programming in C and/or C++.
• Solid CS fundamentals: data structures and algorithms.
• Knowledge of memory management, OS concepts, concurrency, or performance optimization.
• Experience building/debugging complex software via coursework or projects.
• Interest in understanding software close to hardware and systems-level work.
• Ability to break down complex problems and communicate approach clearly.

Responsibilities

• Build and optimize low-level systems software using C/C++.
• Investigate performance bottlenecks and improve speed and reliability.
• Work on data processing and sensor pipelines interfacing with hardware.
• Analyze memory usage and optimize resource management.
• Collaborate across software, firmware, and hardware teams on cross-functional problems.
• Own a technical project from exploration to testing and evaluation.
