Job summary

Allied Instructional is seeking certified Orientation and Mobility Specialists in Louisiana to join our team of independent contractors. These specialists are itinerant and work in local school divisions to provide quality services to students with visual impairments and blindness.

Full and part-time in-person opportunities are available! The Orientation and Mobility Specialist conducts comprehensive assessments, develops IEPs for visual impairments, and collaborates with teachers and families

Qualifications

• Must hold a Professional Certification and/or licensure in Orientation and Mobility.
• Experience writing and implementing IEPs.
• Experience conducting and writing Orientation and Mobility assessments and recommendations.
• Working knowledge of travel skills for students with blindness or low vision.
• Experience providing consultation and training to teachers and service providers relating to visual impairments.
• Excellent human relations, interpersonal communications, conflict resolution, organizational, and planning skills are required.

Seeking independent contractors: AIS is looking for certified Orientation and Mobility Specialists in Louisiana to join our team of independent contractors. These Specialists are itinerant and work in local school divisions to provide quality services to students with visual impairments and blindness. Full and part-time in-person opportunities are available! The Orientation and Mobility Specialist serves as a member of a student’s educational team, providing comprehensive assessments and related services to school-aged students. The Orientation and Mobility Specialist assists in developing and implementing IEPs specific to visual impairments. The candidate must possess a working knowledge of assessment and instructional practices, evidence-based research, recommended best practices, and technologies available for low- and high-tech travel, as well as the expected roles and responsibilities of an Orientation and Mobility Specialist within a school environment.

Qualifications:

• Must hold a Professional Certification and/or licensure in Orientation and Mobility
• Preferred work-related experience as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist

The successful candidate will have:

• Considerable knowledge of special education regulations, policies, and procedures
• Experience writing and implementing IEPs
• Experience conducting and writing Orientation and Mobility assessments and recommendations
• Working knowledge of travel skills for students with blindness or low vision
• Experience providing consultation and training to teachers and service providers relating to visual impairments
• Excellent human relations, interpersonal communications, conflict resolution, organizational, and planning skills are required
• Comprehensive knowledge of the characteristics of individuals with a variety of disabilities, especially visual impairments
